My 4 day old daughter is in the nicu at children's in Birmingham. This continues to be the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with.

Not so much overcome, but deal with on the regular. I have a younger sister who has been dealing with substance abuse and mental instability for the past several years and it is emotionally, financially, and physiologically draining in every regard you can imagine.

Bi-polar and schizophrenic wife. Now ex-wife.

Eight months ago I was disemboweled and I am still alive. In reality it is much more of a credit to my wife and those that cared for me than to my own toughness.

It gets better Bro, I eventually stabilized.
I was in treatment for 7 years. Vet Centers can be helpful, some more than others. The Vet Centers are specialized treatment centers for combat vets. Meet others who have been there and bond. Start your Unit reunions, be the guy to get them going. It helps a lot over time. My unit is in our 25 year of reunions.

Dear God,
There's a miracle waiting to happen in Birmingham. Please get on it.
Sincerely,
Panzer

Was a shithead in my late teens until 21 and almost wasted every opportunity I had. Eventually got it together thanks to some tough love on my Dad's part.

My dad passed away when I was 14 and I had cryptococcal meningitis from 17-21.

My wife got me a burrito with guacamole on it from Moes. We had been together for about 16 years at this point. F-ing guac!!! WTF was she thinking? My head nearly exploded, it was like she didn't even know me.
I also had to drink "Jack and Pepsi" once at a bar in Auburn. After about the second drink, I thought it tasted weird so I watched the bartender to make sure he grabbed the Jack bottle and wasn't giving me some well brand. He grabbed the jack and I was scratching my head thinking my tastebuds were just jacked up. Then he grabs the little squirter thing and that's when I see it. A f-ing pepsi logo on the squirter. I about came over the bar. We had a rather lengthy discussion on when some one says "Jack and Coke" it's two name brands!! Still gets me mad.
I also had a PT Cruiser as a rental car for a week. That was tragic.

Was born into a family with 2 alcoholic parents. Mother sobered up 18 years ago...Father died from an in home accident in 2011 with a BAC of .38.
Served 9 years in the Army, with 15 months in Baghdad from 03-04 (in Sadr City).
My first wife cheated on me several times during my deployment and made my life a living hell.
My daughter has Dandy-Walker Syndrome. It's a pretty severe case and mentally she will be like an infant her entire life.
But I can't really complain, people have had it far worse than me.

All of my hardships were self imposed. addiction, homeless, etc.

A whole lot of stupid shite I put myself through. In perspective, none of it was as hard as some of the stuff I hear about such as the loss off a child, etc. I consider myself fortunate for that.

Slight bipolar, nothing a little meds can't fix...finding the right one was key, changed my life for the better. My dad has same issue and he refuses to try meds, he flips out over small unimportant things
