We used to have a few of them when I was a kid. They seemed to be very significantly less trouble than horses were. I dont remember us doing anything for them besides feeding them and getting their feet did occasionally.

I don't think I know you, but I bet we have some riding friends in common.

My wife saddles one every morning during calving season(right now) and checks cows before work. Comes home in the evening and saddles and works horses. I would say she loves it. I have seen her work horses when it’s 20 degrees outside and I have seen her work horses when it’s 100 degrees outside. Nothing stops her.

I don’t even know what they go for nowadays, but an experienced person can end up with a fabulous and very hearty horse from there. Usually good feet too

When they come up on a barbed wire fence, they get off the mule and put a blanket over the fence and the mule jumps over the fence. They then get back on the mule. It is pretty cool to watch.

Called the coon jump. They do this at mule shows/competitions. Was always my favorite division to watch. they use a regular jump though and have a chalk box drawn that they have to stay in and jump from a standstill.

16 at home. Away from home, upwards of 30.
Been a good year.

Exactly. They are great horses when finished, though.

BB I’ve only seen the mule jump thing online but they can jump the moon.

Horse guy, I expect pictures to be posted. I hope you get at least 1 chromey redhead

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you just want one to ride every now and then, it’s not too bad. If you are looking to do a lot of roping, cutting, and riding, it can get expensive getting them shooed, their shots, and the right diet to keep them healthy and legged up to perform.

Dude, it's like a dog you can ride around

But they don’t play fetch.

Some actually do though. The more energetic and smarter breeds love games and have a curiosity just like dogs do. They also love to be challenged, compete, and please people just like dogs do.

They really are like dogs you can ride, and they form bonds with their humans all the same.

For the first time in forever I do t own a horse and I don’t know how to feel about it. My 30yr old retired roping horse died last week.

Kinda feel vulnerable without one
