Me too, man. It hasn't hit me yet. My wife saw the pic. I didn't mean for her to. She's broken.

We're off Florida Blvd between DS & Walker

Total loss and my truck is gone too.

Evacuated to Three Lakes in Walker & lost that house too (and wife's car).

Sorry to hear about your situation, ell. That's got to be crushing to see a photo with your house in water like that.

By any chance do you have flood insurance?

I do not Russian. You have no idea how demoralizing that is... It was a starter home and not required when we got the mortgage. Zone X. We took a chance. And we will pay for it.

I feel for you. I really do. I honestly can't imagine the feeling of helplessness you and your wife must be having right now.

Be sure to get on the list for FEMA funds for uninsured homeowners.

I heard Gov Edwards say in a TV interview about an hour ago that homeowners in your situation can get up to $33,000. I'm not sure if it's a grant or a loan. He didn't specify.

I know that's peanuts compared to what the cost is you're facing but it's better than nothing.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing. So even though I don't know the extent of my damage, I've already started/completed the fema, car ins, homeowners ins (fema will want to see denial), and a relief program my company offers. We've been offered help from more people than I thought I knew. I'm as shocked as you are that anyone would find me that likable. I'll attribute that to my wife and son I suppose.

I appreciate your kind words. Every little bit helps. It really does.

What are your plans for where you'll stay during the rebuild of your house? Relatives? Rent a house temporarily?

You mentioned already filing car insurance paperwork. Does that mean that you also lost a vehicle or vehicles?

We have family and friends who have offered "spare homes". We aren't exactly sure what we will do at this point. There are benefits to being on our own but also benefits to staying where assistance is easily accessible. My cousin has plenty of room and his daughter goes to the same school as my son. And I did lose a vehicle. It was already underwater when we left in our SUV.

I owe much to my wonderful neighbors who spent priceless minutes honking to wake us up at 5 AM Saturday morning knowing we had a toddler. If not for them, we would have lost much more.

I'm glad to know you've got a place to stay. I hope it works out for you. Try to take the long view. Ten years from now this will just be a really unpleasant memory and an expensive lesson. Prepare to be overwhelmed when you first walk back into your house. I've found a short cry helps in times like these and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

BTW, your sig quote about the flooding in S Carolina isn't as funny as it used to be.....

Depending on how high the water is, $33k would put a dent in mold remediation and all that. Prayers that it's not a total loss.

I have several friends that lost everything during our flooding, truly a demoralizing situation. I was trapped at work (I work emergency management) when it was all going down and felt so helpless as my wife and 1 year old were evacuated. We ended up only losing everything in our crawl space (HVAC, etc), but I will never forget that feeling.

Again, so sorry man.
