Would be kind of difficult concealing a rifle for personal protection.

Again, why would a gun have to be concealed?

Could a rifle be used for protection?

A couple of reasons:

1. The most obvious and most used argument, protection against an overzealous, out of control government. Not much need to explain this one.

2. If the world ever goes to crap and there is a societal break down. This sounds far-fetched, but it could happen. Imagine a scenario where there is a major economic collapse or a failure of the power grid. It would only take a few days for society to start falling apart. While not likely to happen, if it did, I want another option beyond a handgun and a shotgun.

You are missing the point

Why is concealing a deadly weapon practical?

I think a society armed with assault rifles would be much safer than a society armed with handguns

You would immediately know where every threat is. It’s kind of hard to hide an assault rifle while you are slanging drugs on the corner. It would probably reduce police shootings because I think most officers are constantly worried that someone could have a gun in their waistband.

Disagree. What you are saying is that if someone broke into my home and had a knife, ax, crowbar, etc...then it would not be practical for me to have a firearm to protect myself because the intruder doesn't have a handgun?

Sounds like you want to ban handguns. Thanks again for the input.

I'll say it again. All guns do 3 things. Kill, injure, or intimidate.

A .22 is no different than an AR15 as it relates to function.

I didn’t say firearm. I said handgun. Why do you need a concealable weapon to protect your home from invasion?

I’ve already said I’m against any firearm ban. I’m just trying to point out that asking the question “what is practical about assault rifles?” Is a silly question when you have millions of people walking the streets with concealed deadly weapons. And if the left really cared about reducing gun violence they would be talking about that

It just shows you what their real agenda is

I’m bringing this up because you said handguns are practical but are trying to imply assault rifles are not

That makes zero sense

Handgun is a firearm.

Most people do not walk inside their homes with their firearm holstered or slinged. Really there would be no point in that unless you expect a threat. Most people conceal or hide their firearm inside the home (safe, nightstand, etc).

They’re good for keeping your arse safe from tyrants and government authoritarians who prey upon an unarmed populous.

This is not far fetched to anyone that's been through a natural disaster like Katrina.

Have you ever used night vision? What about a thermal camera? Now strap those on a silent drone with hellfire missiles. Your little AR ain't gonna do shite against that. And what about cruise missiles? M1 Abrams? Whatever else the government has hiding away? The idea that the second amendment will protect you from a tyrannical government is a fricking joke.

That said, you do have the right to own the AR, but let's not kid ourselves with the "fight big brother" argument.

A man who can hit a target from a mile or more away is more dangerous than any of those things.

I didn't say that's what I believe, but that's the reason the gun lovers want ARs available.

I don’t really get what you are trying to say. I think we are talking past one another

I’m asking why a handgun is more practical to defend your home than other firearms like an assault rifle or shotgun?

By all measures, handguns are more impractical for firearm safety than all other firearms. They allow people to walk around concealing their intentions. If a firearm is only for defense then why does it need to be concealed? Just walk around with an AR-15 on your shoulder, that says don’t frick with me.

Which I’m totally fine with by the way
