Because a certain percent of the population would rather commit suicide than face the truth. That being said suicide will be rampant.

Would you rather kill yourself then eat your pet or human flesh. There is your answer.

It's pretty damn easy to live off the land here...but a lack of decent heating is a death sentence in winter. Thank goodness there's an unlimited supply of timber.

Three people?

Starving people will eat anything and that’s a literal fact. But they will rape it and kill it first

An old Honda XR400 with a kickstart and no computer chip would be frickin awesome. The problem is the government/police will try to seize everything that moves for themselves.

Martial Law will be in place as will public executions for whatever they want.

What government? How are they going to police miles and miles of towns?

Also, given the OP's scenario, the folks of the government will have bigger issues, like trying to provide and protect their own families. They won't have time to setup martial law that has any chance of doing anything over any town. Not enough manpower, and that manpower has to worry about their own families.

The dude in that video gave an interview saying he killed 38 people and in that interview he's shirtless with a plastic cup of red wine, then he takes his shirtless self and red wine, puts a cigarette in his mouth and drives off...on a tractor.

Hmmmm....do all willow trees contain salicylic acid? I've had natural aspirin supplements before but they always contained white willow bark only which is a totally different type of willow than what we have here in LA?

Yes the willow trees in LA contain salicylic acid. IIRC we only have 2 native species, black willow (Salix nigra) is by far the most common. Probably 95% of the willows you see are black willow.

Somebody is going to burn down my house to get to my food? And water?

Think about that for a second.

The state alone is a Petri dish for disease and not the least bit conducive to being off the grid and self sufficient. I cannot think of a worse place to try and cure and store food. That’s just for starters.

So how is NOLA 300 years old?

Haven't Indian populations lived in this state for over 1,000 years?

Some of you have zero context for your comments... can't see past your face. SMH.

The biggest danger IMO won’t be the bad people. It will be the 10s of millions of “normal” people that will become extremely desperate and unpredictable after watching their kids starve.

You're surprised because...checks notes...the thread is staying on topic.

I'll see you in the next "What would you do if you won the lottery thread" to see how mad that one makes you.

everyone took that to mean emp or solar flair and in typical OT fashion.......people are clueless and beleive hollywood depictions.

someone says....oh im driving to such and such...others chime in you cant

they say there wouldnt be roaming gangs......people say oh yes there would like its some real life purge or some walking dead situation.

Are we throwing logic out the window here?

IF it's not the whole world or nation, then everyone would just answer, "I'd drive to the next town that does have power or out of town to family" so I don't think you have to assume it's anything but a mass outage.

yep.

Mormons are good people to live around. But not when shite breaks down, they'll come after you too.

All the "I'll stock up now" types will learn a hard lesson when it does break down though. The violent will win. You're way better off becoming self sufficient, than storing.
