It's not when they did, it's when did skinny butts become the thing. Women with narrow hips were more likely to die during child birth, but with the advent of modern medicine, it's not an issue anymore. However, the trait still has it's remnants from the past. Men who were more attracted to big butts, historically, were more likely to have kids, and those kids have the same big butt loving traits. But again, it's now a non-advantageous trait, but people who have that inkling don't see it as so.
Men who like big butts today are just an evolutionarily lesser evolved people. And the reason it seems as more people like big butts than before, is due to a societal shift to tolerate the opinions of lesser evolved people as equals.

I lived and worked on the LSU campus for almost 2 decades. The bubble butt look was not in style and at any point. Im somewhat surprised to hear that it is now
