I feel for you. I had a chocolate lab that was 16 years old. She was with me all through college and my first 2 wives. Lol. I knew she was getting bad but just couldn’t do it. I came home one day and she was laying in urine. I knew then it was time. It was the hardest damn thing I’ve ever done in my life. The vet I went to was extremely nice and compassionate. I stayed in there with her for a bit after it was over. I took off work that day and cried all day. I swore I’d never get another dog. After about 3 years I broke down and got a mountain cur to be my hunting buddy. He reminds me of her all the time. Sounds like yours is ok right now. Like others have said. You’ll know. I still miss that dang dog. She was with me through a lot of crap in my life. Prayers for you and your pup.

I’m sure many in your family can’t do what they used to because they’re old, fat, whatever. Ask them if it’s time to put them down.
Welllll........to be fair.........

You'll know when it's time.
The irony behind this is that most owners actually don’t know when it’s time. Ask any vet hospital and staff. Majority of owners keep their dogs well past when it’s time simply because they can’t let them go.

You’ll know it’s time when you think you should have done it weeks ago. If there is still doubt, not yet.

I have been through this and it sucks.
Is your dog in pain? Thats the ultimate question. Don't allow the dog to suffer. If you feel he's suffering, its time.

Our dog was super old and could no longer walk and we had someone tell us to put her down, but she lived another year this way. She still ate great and seemed oka
How old? A girl I know has a dog that’s 15 and he’s still relatively fine. He’s gotten skinny and he seems more anxious than ever, but still eats good and does the bathroom like he’s supposed to. Still plays, etc. it’s definitely not time now, but I worry that it’s going to hit him like a sack of bricks and he’ll go down fast and I don’t know that she’ll be able to make the right decision. Do dogs live much longer that 15?

The best time? When you are leaving for vacation and have nobody to feed it.
