You can also add that really old conservatives stand in the way. That voting block needs to die off

Oklahoma has medical marijuana.
Louisiana has medical but the system is a complete failure due to all the regulations and the fricking outrageous price. You have to buy oil, that’s it period. No inhalants are sold in Louisiana.
The bigger question is when do the American people demand that they decide rather than letting our politicians decide what’s best for us? Demand a ballot vote.

My instinct reaction was this too, but I actually worked with Mormons for quite a while. They’re very unique people. I actually respect them. Yes, their religion is absolutely bat shite crazy and us Non-Mormons made fun of them constantly BUT... they’re financially extremely responsible and driven people. They’d take an opportunity like marijuana and exploit the shite out of it for profits. They’re all athletes (see Taysom Hill) dude is 6’4 and the color of a ghost but looks like a cut Brock Lesnar and runs a legit 4.4ish
They’re wives are alll smokeshows too. I couldn’t believe it. I was playing basketball on our company team and we had overweight, 5’7 white Mormon dudes J-ing it up from 6 feet behind the line. They’re score 30 points, then waddle off the court with their blonde wife who was a legit OT 8. Crazy culture.
Funniest thing is that these Mormons were all pulling down like 250+k in my former industry while us “regular” guys were making good money but absolutely nothing close to that.
Unfortunately, Louisiana will probably be the last state that I can see legalizing weed. There’s too many private prisons, who rely on the profits of locking people up for multiple “PWItD” charges and too many religious zealots who belief weed is “of the devil”

Tennessee
The entire deck is stacked against legalization in Tennessee.
- Ballot iniatives are only driven by legislature
- GOP supermajority represents mostly old, white social conservatives
- Lobbying is incredibly pervasive at the State level
- the State doesn't currently need the revenue
It took a 10 year war between the liquor lobby and the grocery lobby just for us to get wine in fricking grocery stores, and even that had to be further approved at a county level.

This cuts both ways though. Think of all the LEO’s who depend on drug trafficking and border enforcement for work.
They’d likely be the first to tell you how dangerous it would be to legalize weed.

I have no idea what Louisiana's medical rules are but Oklahoma is easy. Like VERY user friendly.

Obviously an exaggeration but Texas marijuana laws (and many other states) are ridiculous. Get caught with any amount of marijuana oil and you are hit with a felony. Such a waste of time and resources in general to prosecute marijuana "crimes."

Which, is completely fricking ironic since their generation is the one that brought us Woodstock, hippies, free love, etc.

Totally agree. With that said, many cities have relaxed their local laws. Also, Dan Patrick is the road block to Texas decriminalizing. He needs to go.

It's gonna take our politicians a while to figure out how to steal a lot of money from this new enterprise before they'll allow it.
They have to finish arguing over who gets the sports betting skim, before than can address the issue.

I don't care if it's legal or not, but it's always funny when people think legalization of marijuana will shut down the cartel. Meth and heroin are already taking its place.

However, I think the majority of posters here are missing the big point in the legalization movement. The legislators didn't make pot legal. The citizens did with ballot initiatives. States where you can vote for/against laws of ballots will continue the trend. LA is set up like that. As is TX. As is AL.
Yeah but it really doesn't matter what the people want in Louisiana. The Politicians are gonna do whatever they want!
Remember we voted to legalize fantasy sports betting, and as of this date we still cant! Even though the people voted for it. Don't get me started on why our casino's don't have sports book's. Makes absolutely no sense at all!
Let this sink in. It is legal to sleep with an animal in Louisiana, but you cant legally bet on a football game SMDH!

I was talking with my 75 year old mother in law a few months ago about weed. She's a very conservative southern lady raised in the Church of Christ church and still very active in it. She has some archaic views on weed, but said if it was legalized in Alabama before she died she'd try it. I hope they legalize it here and I can smoke a bowl with her sometime soon.
