That was 8 years ago. It's been pretty terrible in the industry since then.
Maybe terrible over the last two years but I know a lot of oilfield guys and they do/did pretty good for themselves.

I expect to be gone monday when I get off call. UE will pay my bills. Plan on doing the same thing I did in 2015. Enjoy my summer. Got all my camping gear ready. When the national parks open I will be touring the mountains. Then come back to south Louisiana for when the trout hit the beaches.

I don't dislike them, but gas over say $2.50 is price gouging, plenty of money to be made by everyone keeping prices moderate.
But they love to brag about gas over $3 and what they are buying with their riches.

you do realize the profit margins on gasoline for these major name brands you all love to hate right?

But why do so many posters on here take shots at the good people of the Oil & Gas industry?
I think it has more to do with their actions than the fact that they're working in the oil fields.
They provide a service thats an absolute necessity.
But they also work in an unstable industry. Yet they will buy an $80k truck and possibly not be able to pay the note in a few months.

It’s crazy how loyal baws like you and Sun God are to an industry that rapes you, lays you off, and will look for safety protocols that you broke as a reason to not pay you when you get hurt. These big oil companies don’t GAF about you or your family but y’all will defend them til death.

I dont think we are defending the big oil companies. Majority of us work for "service" companies. Meaning shell and Exxon dont sign our checks. We are 3rd party.

If you haven’t gotten my point in this thread then you never will. You might need to go back to that expensive Northeast school for a couple more semesters

I mean... imagine if you worked your whole life building a career and were out of a job because a bunch of greedy Arabian dicks wanted to start a price war and Democratic governors were collapsing the economy. I call that being a victim of circumstance

This is when it all started:

Raises hand.
Hell with in the 1st two years out of school I took a 20% pay cut then another 30%. Quit that job and just got back to where I was pay wise last year and now I am getting a 12% cut starting May 1st.
The money is no longer there and it is impossible to move up for the most part.
Anyone who as entered the industry in the past 6-7 yrs has not seen good times.

yep. i used to get 50 bucks a day per trainee. a lot of people didn't want to train anyone. i would take on 3 or 4 per well one year. i'll take 200 bucks extra to say the same thing to 4 people than just 1. and the quarterly bonuses were nice too. nothing felt better than having your boss call you when you are on day 59 of the quarter and asking if you want to take some time off. "nah im good. one more day and it hit my mark" at peak that was an extra 75 bucks a day.

Awww, how thoughtful of you to think of me and Sun. And FWIW, both of us have done extremely well for ourselves. And call it luck or whatever, but it’s primarily due to hard work, adaptability, long hours, and being dedicated to our craft. I’m fairly certain the outcome would be similar regardless of the field. Especially for Sun, he’s Mensa compared to some of you SPED level posters (including myself)
it is funny tho that you think me and Sun are roughneck rig hands. Yeeehaw!

I just don't see living beyond your means and flaunting your toys and vacations on social media as a specific trait to oilfield or refinery baws. Literally the majority of Americans live beyond their means. You cannot go on social media without people flaunting their spending habits be it fancy dinners, vacations, new cars, etc.

A lot of folks are just angry about their own shitty life and need to take it out on someone.
