There IS a reason to change, particularly if they don't wear any other barriers.
OSHA dictates that medical professionals wearing scrubs in treatment MUST change prior to leaving the office.
Now, they can and often do change into other scrubs.
No ifs, ands, or buts.

You could aske lawyers/bankers why they wear suits to bars, or military why they wear uniforms grocery shopping...

I don't work at a hospital but I wear scrubs out to restaurants and stores all the time. They are very comfortable!
