Your kids are lucky!
My parents were way too frugal to have paid for 2 hotel rooms, so big vacations ended for us when I was about 14.
My only sibling is male, and you can only share a bed for so long before it’s weird.
Honestly, I was over sharing a room even with my parents by like age 9. Four people in a standard hotel room is awful.

My relationship with the beach is complicated.
For about 35 years every single year the only trip my family would save up to take was to go to St. Pete Beach, FL. We stayed at a Mom and Pop place on the beach (or directly across the street when I was younger). And we had some really good times there when there were about 15-20 of us that would go with some other family coming in from other states.
Most days were get up, eat a breakfast at the condo/apartment, go to the beach for a few hours, come back and take a nap/eat lunch, then do some activity in the area with dinner out. 4th of July we stayed at the condo all day, grilled out, and watched the fireworks down the beach. Rinse and repeat for two weeks.
I'm not a big sand person, but loved to swim so I'd just get out in the water. But I'm also pasty AF so I would be out there with a bucket hat, shite ton of sun screen, and a rash guard. Still had fun though.
These days it's just not the same, especially after my Mom and Brother have both passed. My Dad is pretty miserable to be around and it wouldn't be much of a vacation for me with him there. Same with some of my extended family who just bicker and argue the whole time. And now my family tries to shame us for going on trips without them to places that aren't the beach.
It also bums me out a bit that we didn't go other places growing up, so I've been making up for lost time by doing that now. Next big trip is heading out to Yellowstone and I can't wait.

I’ll go up to my waist, roughly, but not for long. I saw a shark attack once in waist deep water and it kind of fricked me up. Person was fine, but the thought of that still haunts me a bit. Why risk it?

On the flipside, I went and swam in the Gulf for decades and was never attacked.
The chance of you getting attacked by a shark in the shallow waters in the Gulf is a hell of a lot lower than dying in a car crash getting there.

The Beach itself is great, southern beach/booze culture with the hordes of sleeve tatted trash drunk boating is awful.

You showed up to work drunk every day for years and are a swinger. I wouldn’t be judging people based on civility

Good thing you lack morals and lie like a hood rat, or you would have nothing to say.
Small people always have to lie to feel better about themselves, and youre one of the smallest, literally and figuratively.
No one listens to anal retentive metrosexuals for adivce.

That's a stretch. The food at Lulus is shite.
It's elevated by the family-oriented atmosphere, where your kids can play and use the arcade while the adults enjoy cocktails at the table overlooking the bay, watching the sea plane come and go, and listen to live music.
There's better food in Destin but there's much worse. Lulu's isn't bad.
Disclaimer, I only go to Destin after Labor Day. During the summer, all of Destin is a shite show, I imagine lulu's would be too.

I have zero hatred whatsoever for the actual beach itself. It’s just not a good bang for buck as a couple without kids.
It’s $1500+ to travel there to eat mediocre food out, or have to cook/shop otherwise, or eat sandwiches every day for lunch, then to load and haul all your alcohol out with you every day, etc.
I never got why the panhandle was so dominated with condos versus actual resorts with beachside waitresses serving cocktails and food. They’d make bank for those of us that hate the DIY experience.
