Quaid's accent in the Big Easy hurts deep inside. I don't think anyone has raped an accent that bad ever.

To be fair NO is a tough accent to imitate for an outsider

And frankly even natural Yat/Coonass/Cajun accents sound kinda ridiculous

My mom is from New Orleans and has a yat accent. Dad and his family are from avoyelles. My normal accent is coon arse but, I can speak both fluently depending on which family member I'm talking to and I don't realize that I'm changing accents.

IMO, the water boy did the accents pretty good

The two worst movie southern accents I've ever seen were Nic Cage in Con Air and Anne Bancroft in G.I. Jane.

The English don't look at the Southern accent as stupid. In America people are perceived as less intelligent when they talk with a southern accent.
People likely struggle with doing one because subconsciously they don't want to sound stupid. The English seem to respect the South more than Yankees.

Hollywood seems to think it's like a high class southern/Charleston accent when it's closer to a Italian jerseys accent than a southern one. The worst is in double jeopardy

What I find interesting is that uptown white peoples and black people in New Orleans have such unique accents.
