re: Why is Louisiana so dirty?

I agree with what you had to say but I really feel that the "we are poor" crowd just use that as an excuse.
Louisiana has basically the same natural resources as Texas and Texas is worlds ahead of Louisiana's economy. In fact, Texas is ahead of Louisiana in just about every measurable positive there is. It boils down to demographics, education system (lack thereof), and general DGAF amongst the population. Also, there's not a clean politician in this state.
Agree 100%. Our politics has been dirty for so long, and still is in more localized levels, that it's nearly impossible to dig ourselves out. Our food stamp expenditures are through the roof. And anyone attempting to fix the problem, and cut back on food stamps and the incentive to not work, is called a racist and demonized by the left and establishment politicians.
It also doesn't help how our oil residuals with fedgov were negotiated. We have O&G and the Miss River corridor full of plants that should bring in plenty of $ to the state, which it does. Yet what is there to show for it?
And FWIW, a population that DGAF is the reason our public schools are so shitty (besides the fact they are government schools). Our private schools are great. But to send your child to a private school you have to give a shite about your childs education. Yes, there are some public schools that are good. Dutchtown, a couple in the NOLA area, but by and large, they are failures and perpetuate the nanny state/guaranteed poverty status quo.
Some people would rather be poor and live off the government in order to not have to work. The rest of us are doing our best to provide for our families.
I've told my wife many times, if it wasn't for being around family, i would move to somewhere like the Woodlands in Texas.

It's a combination of the culture, the poor and uneducated, and all the 'dirty" industry aka oilfield, chemical plants, etc.

Everytime I come back it looks worse. Huge pot holes on most roads, road kill all over the side of the road, trash in the grass. I mean do people here just not care? The air generally stinks in most places. Leaving this state was the best thing I have ever done. Once you experience something else, you will never move back.
I am 100% with you. It's a shithole. People have no pride in their surroundings no matter what part you go to. I'll never go back after being in Texas. And thats the thing, most everyone there haven't been out of a 100 mile radius for more than two weeks. They think its the norm.

Why is Louisiana so dirty?

Most places are much nicer than La. I never noticed it really until I moved out of state. Now I find myself in disgust when I go back to visit family.

You don't have to look any further than LSU tailgating to find a prime example of why the problem persists in LA more than other places.
No one cleans up after themselves - piles of trash everywhere. And even when people do try, the cans get so overfilled that it just spills over anyway because the people responsible for filling those cans are: 1. understaffed, and 2. incompetent. And it takes far too long for all of this to be cleaned up, just in time for the next home game.
I went to a BC/FSU game last season and was amazed at how clean everything was (while also acknowledging that BC tailgating was a joke, especially compared to a place like LSU). But the fact remains that every tent had at least one, if not more than one trash can, and the people there actually used them. By the time we left the game, all of the cans had been emptied for people to continue to use.
It's incredible when you witness something being done properly after becoming so accustomed to seeing something done poorly and just assuming that is the norm.

It seems that the utopian community of Little Rock has it's own issue with litter.
"In some areas of Little Rock, litter is a big problem," explains Suzanne Hirrel from Keep Little Rock Beautiful.
"On some busy roads, it's not hard to find empty soda cans, wrappers, plastic bags and other trash. On our search, we found large garbage bags full of trash, and even scraps of what looked like an old TV."

Nobody gives a frick about Little Rock. The point of this thread is that Louisiana has a lot of fricking issues and people that say "oh, well at least we are better than this shitty place or that shitty place" does nothing to correct the problem.
The fact that Little Rock, Jackson, Mobile, or other cities with similar demographics as Louisiana are shitty is irrelevant. That's basically the "it's like this everywhere" argument, and that means you are part of the problem because it perpetuates acceptance.

110 near the airport is where all of the trucks delivering flood debris are routed to the City Dump off of Hwy. 61. It is terrible, but is worse now because of debris removal.

It does matter when the OP is from LR and makes the claim that BR is so trashy.
Litter is a problem in many communities in many states.
Obviously, reading comprehension is lacking in many communities as well.

Louisiana trash spilling over the borders into neighboring states. Nice. Sounds like the routes Louisiana folks take on their way out of the state. What a shocker that there would be trash along these routes.
