The truth is likely the simplest scenario. If I had to guess, some choice words were exchanged after Hayes ran into Smith's $120k SUV. Who wouldn't be pissed?
Hayes wasn't gonna let someone talk shite to him with his buddy in the car. He was likely drunk and keepin it real went very wrong. Obviously all speculation but it's based on what witnesses reported. I think the lawsuit and cop's ties to his father's death is probably a coincidence.

Been to the hoods in Philly, at 4am. No problem. You couldn't pay me to walk through NO at night with SWAT.

The part that I don't get is if it was indeed a hit, why would he just hang around waiting for the police. You'd think he would have gotten the hell out of there. So who knows.

Someone doesn't understand the relationship of the murder rate to a certain business venture most perps and victims are involved in...not to suggest you walk through any neighborhood at night in Nola, but to act as if all of Nola is a warzone and that random citizens are dying every evening is absurd.
