People who are saying it is staged saw the one clip that was edited and aired on American TV and saw nothing else.

I'm still waiting for someone to address my earlier question from the perspective of someone who thinks it's fake...what if anything could convince them it was real? And if nothing, what does that say about the position they hold if it's unfalsifiable?

Obvious it was fake, but definitely real.

Why would either of them agree to do this though? What do they have to gain by faking an event that doesn't make either really look good? And in Smith's case, he looks like a bitch

Some sanction of Smith is likely to come — perhaps the suspension of his Academy membership, as many Academy members are calling for, but not the revocation of his best actor Oscar, as others would like to see.

Ok it's become simple and clear.

Let's see what they do. If they strip his Oscar I'll say it was a shoot. If they "suspend his academy membership" it was a work. That's what my criteria is.

I can't imagine why Will would ever agree to tarnish his legacy before receiving the ultimate Oscar award for Best Actor. I don't see how money could even motivate him for that. He certainly doesn't need the publicity. This should have been a highly celebrated moment for him in his career.

shite movie, a flop (lost money), shite performance. No one will ever be talking about him in that movie, and that's his "big Oscar Win"

Really makes you wonder why a throwaway, unfunny, and not even remotely offensive joke made a guy known for keeping his composure in the industry for 30 years suddenly plummet out of character on the night of his "big win" doesnt it?

The same people who believe this was "definitely staged" are the same ones who refuse to believe that any injuries that occur in pro wrestling are legit. Some of them are probably still saying that Owen Hart's death was staged.

Bill Burr has not released his normal Mondy Morning Podcast yet. I'll bet he's processing this one a bit and when it does drop is going to be a must-listen episode. He's one of the smartest, most logical-thinking comedians around today. Will be interesting to hear his thoughts.

Chris Rock to not put his arms behind his back and lean his chin forward as Will Smith approaches. Normal reaction is to put your hands up in defense mode, at the very least to deflect a punch.

Also, I’d have to have someone explain to me why Will Smith threw his momentum (his chest) backwards as he swung, instead of forward like a person who was actually trying to inflict a little harm would do. He short armed that punch, much like a movie actor would do when filming a scene. Will’s “slap” using only the fingers, and not be palm of his hand or a fist, was so that he would cause as little force as possible.

If Will Smith actually caught Chris Rock off guard wouldn’t Rock’s momentum cause him to fall a step or two to the side? Chris Rock never took a step back to protect himself at any point. How did he know Will Smith wasn’t going to keep swinging?

It was staged.

They are currently wetting their fingers and testing the Twitter wind to see what side they should take. You know as well as I do that it could be 100% true and still not viable for them to do anything if social media is leaning too hard towards not doing anything. Woke Hollywood will not "do the right thing" if it means pissing off that group.

Apparently, the Academy is "meeting" to discuss "sanctioning" Will Smith
Smith should have been asked to leave immediately after that disgraceful behavior. Rock handled himself professionally .Why would anyone want to present if someone can stroll onstage and attack them?

They've kicked people out of the Academy for less.

Kind of my take on Scent of a Woman, and yet it's where Pacino finally won his instead of in about 5 others earlier in his career. Doesn't matter what you get it for, just that you got it.

Nah, it matters, some are sympathy awards like so, and you immediately brought it up and remember it that way.

It matters. I do get your point though. It does justify other movies to some people but in reality it means nothing.

He was on stage presenting an award at one of the most prestigious, watched televised live events on Earth, in a room full of people in tuxedos and ball gowns not known for running up on stage and committing violence.

He clearly thought Smith was coming to tell him something.

There is simply NO reason for them to stage this. If it was staged, both would have come out and said something.

We now have multiple camera angles and unedited footage during and after.

It was not staged. Period.

The fact that Smith is not "breaking character" to preserve some dignity has to be closing in on the staunch "staged" group. Exactly how far do they think a bit like this is to be taken by the parties involved?

Maybe 10-20 years ago. I'm pretty sure Ryan's Toy Review on youtube gets more viewers per day
