How about a ban bet?
If there are any ice related road closures on the NorthShore/ NOLA area tomorrow morning at 6 am ill ban myself for a month.
Anyone else up for this wager?
We can up it to 6pm tonight if you want.

He stated wind chill as a reason that the roads will not that today. That's wrong. Do you not agree?
No, I don't agree and that's not what trey said either. Elevated bridges have a lot of surface area that is not covered with ice but is exposed to the wind. With cold space directly on the surface heat will not be able to leach out of the steel and concrete because it can't create a layer of heat transfer that it normally would without the wind pushing it away from the surface. This could be the difference in a few degrees that will (assuming sustained winds) keep the bridge colder.

If you are in Gonzales do you know if the road
is open at the junction of 74 and Airline Hwy
this morning?
No idea. I drove down airline from Highland Road last night to Duplessis coming home from the basketball game. Not sure about further down towards Gonzales.

But that's not wind chill. Apparently we're not really even arguing the same thing here.

JESUS you are dense... Wind chill WILL make a difference in how soon the roads are passible... Let the sun come out... GREAT... The temps are still TO LOW to melt enough to make a difference.....

Suns melting all the ice in Gonzales, don't think the freeze tonight is going to effect anything too much

Your link doesn't prove anything or have anything to do with what I was discussing
This isn't a pissing match, because you haven't even grasped what was being discussed

Wind chill is the measure of the impact of cold on exposed skin. Absolutely nothing more.

Peej, wind chill by definition, is only related to how people and animals feel when outside. See for yourself here.
LINK
quote:
1. What is wind chill temperature? back
A. The wind chill temperature is how cold people and animals feel when outside. Windchill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by wind and cold. As the wind increases, it draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature. Therefore, the wind makes it FEEL much colder. If the temperature is 0 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind is blowing at 15 mph, the wind chill is -19 degrees Fahrenheit. At this wind chill temperature, exposed skin can freeze in 30 minutes.
2. Can wind chill impact my car's radiator or exposed water pipe? back
A. The only effect wind chill has on inanimate objects, such as car radiators and water pipes, is to shorten the amount of time for the object to cool. The inanimate object will not cool below the actual air temperature. For example, if the temperature outside is -5 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind chill temperature is -31 degrees Fahrenheit, then your car's radiator will not drop lower than -5 degrees Fahrenheit.
