We got married in 1982. My new wife wanted to hyphenate her name. So. She's 21 at the time and a request to have her new Shell gas card embossed with the hypenated name.

What she gets back is complete first name. Complete maiden name dash 3 letters of (my) last name. Looks ridiculous. She immediately decides this is bullshite and drops the hyphenated idea.

These days, perhaps not a problem, but "back in the day", it was.

I know women who have kept their maiden names due to professional work reasons or licensing reasons on credentials. Im cool with that.

However, I am old school in thinking that the "one name" is important because you are now a single family unit. Not two people in one house.

Mine is an established businesswoman with with a prominent name in her industry. We never even had the conversation it was a given she would keep her name. No worries here .

What last name do/will the kids carry?

Please tell me it is not hyphenated.

My wife didn't take my last name. She had her own practice before we married and wanted to keep it simple. NBD to me. I got other shite I can be mad at her about.
That's small potatoes.
Same here. I was 38, she was 37, both first marriage. I complained a little at first but when she explained to me all the shite she'd have to change, and how it would make it difficult for her at work (school system) since everyone knew her as her maiden name, I relented. It's no big deal really. All of her government issued shite has her by maiden name, but she uses both last names (ala Hillary Rodham Clinton) for everything else. I know she's my wife and so does my family and friends. Anybody else I give no fricks.

If you've got that much of a problem with it, you're probably a little insecure. Just sayin.

if you had nothing but daughters, and you were the only male carrying the family name, would you want them to keep their maiden name or not? ...

I actually know a guy who's father married a French woman who had no brothers. The father would only allow him to marry her if he legally changed his name to both last names so his family name would be carried on. The two French last names together actually sound cool.

Look, Bobby, just because your political position on Israel is the opposite of mine doesn't mean that either of us is a bigot. It is not possible for me to be more of a bigot than the average Israeli.

I'm just very shocked by how much an entire culture hates my guts yet requires me to love them. Why is that difficult for you to understand?

You talking about me or him? I don't even really know what to say about that. Beating him down now would seem like raping Hermione. Satisfying, yes, but morally wrong, per society.

No idea. Though he seems to be a leading scholar of my post history, I am unaware of his sexual status.

So he did the Pectus thing. Yes, very original.

Wait no. I shouldn't judge. It's very possible that he's legit and really is desperately, sexually impossible.

You're right, you can completely disagree with me on my political position on Israel and not be a bigot. However, you are a bigot for other reasons, as I have previously explained. Oh, and my name isn't Bobby.
