If this happens to me, leave my legs hanging out for all to see- just to highlight the complete incompetence of this city. Take photos and share them on every social media platform in existence. I'm serious. I'll be an example, I don't give a shite. The powers the be have to be shamed into making this city better. You think this frickery would fly in New York?

I agree with you since you called me out. Just leave him there, and let the building fall on it's own.

I had no idea that was how NOLA handled tragedies, just leaving them hanging around instead of cleaning up the mess. Carry on. Most the country would deal with this in an appropriate manner.

lets assume for 1 second that a crane cant reach it, which is BS

if only there was an invention of a thing called a helicopter and rope so a guy can remove the remains safely rather then leave it to rot while birds feed off of it

maybe someday they will invent rope and a helicopter

Par for the course in this city. We have to have one of the most incompetent and pathetic governments of any major city. San Fran is first but we’re quickly catching them.

I do have pics from 12-3-19 with the red tarp up. I remember asking myself what the purpose of the red tarp was while I was there that day being that the tarp would not support fallen debris. It never occurred to me that it was covering a dead worker.

Originally the victim's body was covered by debris (light purple/yellow siding). Twitter user MaeMee seems to have a pic showing victim under debris before debris fell away at some point (maybe when attempting to take down cranes). Not exactly sure why city decided to go with red tarp first time around instead of something that matched debris better like light purple or yellow.

I just went with story that both bodies were 100% buried. Not sure what I would have thought if I would have seen the red tarp in person. I think I would have wondered about the worker/victim that could be seen in collapse video trying to get out around that area, but who knows. It's just the red stood out in pictures.

They did seem to go with yellow tarp today, but they are already taking about tears.

quote:

New Orleans Fire Department Superintendent Tim McConnell said that the new yellow tarp that was placed to block the remains has several tears and is not yet sufficiently doing the job.

I’m not disagreeing with you that the city is absolutely incompetent and should have handled this situation much better...aka demo’ing the wreckage by now...just don’t think there is anyway to remove the body how it lies under sections of concrete and steel suspended on top of a unsecured structure without risking the entire thing fall in on itself

Well that can be done too and should be halfway complete by now. Anyone that says it can’t doesnt know what they are talking about.

As for the rest of your arguement, Controlled Demolitions has been doing this for about a hundred years and I would suspect they have dealt with worse. If the “historic” buildings (read shithole) get damage that’s not terribly unusual either.

That also is just part of the risk that has to be mitigated but absorbed. Leaving it as is is far worse.

The performance of all involved, owners, city officials, engineers, architects and including but not limited to the attorneys elicit derision from many armchair spectators including myself. Hence the comment on retrieving the legs. It’s sarcasm.

To allow this to remain in this state of flux after this long period of time is not only extremely dangerous and irresponsible it’s almost criminal in itself. And to not have someone, anyone, in an official capacity simply take charge, get the building down and deal with the outcome is a testament to our lack of leadership. At all levels.

It’s downright embarrassing.

There are no pictures yet that are available on the internet that show the body. I’m calling BS.

That doesn’t sound safe at all. You’re putting people at risk to save a corpse that’s buried under hundreds of pounds of rubble. How would you even do this?

It sucks, but the guy is dead. He’s not getting any deader.

Do you have any idea how dumb you are if you think it’s as simple as this?

The fact this got 7 upvotes is astounding and shows how little most people in this thread know. You want to put a helicopter near a building that could potentially collapse and blow debris everywhere, all while hanging someone out of a chopper to tie a rope on a dead body and then drag it around the city hanging by said rope.

Do you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds?

Nevermind the fact that half of the body was crushed and is trapped under tons and tons of concrete & steel and cannot possibly be retrieved without cutting it in half. SMH

Well I think he just meant lasso it and wing it on over to Canal. I don’t think he meant make a lap around the city with it.

Why not get a Coast Guard helo and lower a swimmer down? Do you realize how many rescues they did during Katrina.

The leadership of this city of pathetic and laughable. And there’s people on this board that constantly defend this whole ordeal just because they won’t admit I was right from day one.

I hate to say it but if Mitch was in charge those bodies would be out and that building would be down by now.
