Yeti pissed off a lot of their dealers last year by not being able to fill orders in the 4th quarter. Look at the tumblers for instance, you couldn't find one on the shelves for Xmas gifts. Yeti, at least as of last year, didn't actually warehouse a lot of inventory. They were scared to invest too much in inventory, so they lost their arse off during Xmas. The unfulfilled orders last year is more a factor as to why the independent dealers began carrying RTIC and other competitors. It wasn't all just because of the crazy Yeti price points.

This info came straight from a dealer I know personally.

No hate here - I have a tumbler, cup, and koozie. That said, my RTIC tumbler works just as good as my YETI tumbler and was half the price.

They have done an exceptional job at marketing their product and making it "the" brand to have in this space. Now that others have seen what kind of money can be made in the space, they have flocked to it with the intent on creating products that are just as good, but at lower price points.

So, sure, YETI will likely keep those that have to have the name brand products, but they will likely lose those who just want a good product at a good price. Once YETI IPO's, then they will have to answer to investors who will be looking to keep/gain marketshare while returning profits, so I'm sure that there will be some sort of change to their business model, which could mean that they lower their price point to become more competitive, as they would obviously have the capital available to produce the amount of inventory needed to keep up with the demand.

Or stolen. The Wall Street Journal had an article about how often they get jacked or taken in burglaries. LINK

Why people here in Louisiana buy that, but Y2K makes just as good coolers, cheaper here in the state.

I wouldn't touch that stock. Many years ago, there was SS coolers that were high dollar coolers and still are. They don't sell that many anymore. And yes, I have a 300 qt box that would hold ice for a week easy.

Im interested in real world users thoughts on the luxury cooler market and its potential,

I mean they'll always have a group out there that will only buy Yeti because it says Yeti on it. But I didn't think they would be a company in 10 years from now. There are better coolers and copy's of all their products for less than 50% of what they ask for it. Don't see how they can last like that.

Where are you reading 5B valuation?

Looks like they are pulling in about 150M in EBITDA. That's pretty sporty. But 5B is too much

I'm thinking this IPO will go like the crocs IPO, or GoPro, etc.

Not a pretty chart...

It will be wildly overvalued and sold at the peak of growth. Sell short only IMO.

That Wall St Journal piece, I have a login

Whether Yeti succeeds with that valuation is another story. At $5B, the company would be selling for 36x 2015 EBITDA. That's steep, but Yeti is growing fast (sales more than tripled to $469M last year), and Under Armour - to name another company with hot products - sells for 67x next year's expected profits. Then there's ski-jacket maker Moncler at 20x.

Cortec, the P/E shop invested in yeti made 50x in 4 years on the deal and just got $312M in dividends from Yeti

I would but I'm concerned that they can't expand much more. Kind of like Crocs.
