I use it at home and work. It works fine and there is the benefit of having more privacy.
The fact that it is the default search engine of TOR should tell you something.
Google is an awesome search engine, use it if you are OK with what you know about it. Of course it is not a very good tactical decision to be so careless with your data footprint.
