Thats good news, pay people that have a vested interest in fighting this thing to help. Now lets all hope and pray they can do some good.

I work with our marine department every day in getting boats lined up for our upcoming jobs.
Since our jobs only last a week, or two at max (depending on what we're doing to the well) we spot hire a lot of boats instead of just keeping them on pay roll. After a job is done, we'll let the boat go for a week or two, until we have another job going out, and then re spot hire it again.
We've been told that if we cut a boat loose, it'll immediately be snatched up and we won't get it back. Finding any boats at the moment for our work, is almost impossible.

And can you use small boats like a 20' CC Twin vee Twin engine 70hp. I would think because of the shallow draft would be good for maintaining boom.

What is it looking like right now in terms of new jobs for this thing? I am looking for a summer job.

BROffshoreTigerFan, who do you work for? I own a utility/supply boat company and I'm wondering if we may already know each other.

I know the president is holding off opening up new leases to drill on. Since these leases were already closed, it's not going to impact the industry greatly.
We are still planning on drilling some big wells this year, as well as some workovers.
The only thing that I see that would slow things down a great deal, is if any new procedures or regulations come up that significantly change how we drill.
Summer is a very busy time. Better weather, longer days. Most companies will be looking to hire this summer, I'd expect.

I contract to Chevron out of their lafayette office (did work in the field for about 10 years through various operators before becoming a desk jockey).
Does your company do a lot of work with Chevron?

Not a lot, but we do some. Our fleet is a little small for Chevron, but they have used my 140' Mini Supply recently.

I don't call many vendors for hiring of boats. The portion of my job that deals with our marine department is more for logistics and tracking.
On the boat that was used recently, do you know where the job was out of (which dock?)
It's still possible that we may have met. I used to deal with Laborde Marine, and Central Boat a lot.
And my wife's family is pretty big in the boating industry (unfortunately not Chouest, I wouldn't be spending my time at the office if this was the case). Mostly lift boats. Altough she doesn't have anything to do with the business.
