As I was watching the hearing I was struck by how bad the performance of Tony Hayward's testimony. It was a lot of I don;t knows and such. I mean goodness was the man briefed. I was not buying it. Now we see from the Corner:

quote:

Breaking: Hayward Relinquishes Gulf Spill Duties [Daniel Foster]
As I warned yesterday, Tony Hayward's mummery before a House subcommittee was prelude to his marginalization (and likely to his eventual ouster) as BP's CEO.
From Britain's Sky News via Politico:
A day after he was grilled by a Congressional committee, BP CEO Tony Hayward has agreed to hand over day-to-day operation on the Gulf oil spill to company executive Bob Dudley, BP Board Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg tells Sky News.

Like I thought yesterday it seemed all intentional. This is actually a good move by BP. Let the Congressmen vent and then Hayward falls on his sword. Mother Teresa herself could have rose from the dead been named BP's CEO and nothing she would have said would have mattered. It was venting time.

Thus bringing in a new chairman that will have more answers and is a fresh face.

Perfect

if you think that tony hayward knows shite about drilling, you are dead wrong.

they asked the wrong dude to go to the hearing. it should have been the drilling superintendant for bp.

Not a shock at all. Everyone knew he'd be gone when this settles out.

Guys Heyward was saying what he had to say.

If he goes out there and starts talking he finds himself in the justice investigation probe.

Better to say "I don't know", "I wasn't in the loop on that decision"

In other words if your looking for someone to hang, its not gonna be me.

I came away with the fact he was the only one with any intelligence. He was obviously briefed as he said all the right things.

The congressman asked all the wrong questions. Did even understand the answers they should have expected. They asked questions which he sufficiently answered. There could not have been more ignorant people questioning him. It was obvious most of the congressmen didn't give a frick about the situation. It was all a bunch of idiots campaigning.

FWIW, I don't care about BP. All of it was just obvious.

People actually watched the hearing? After the healthcare bill it's prety difficult watching Congressmen pile it on to a CEO of a multi national corporation because he isn't intimately familiar with the daily operations of a single oil rig.

I'd happily vote for Tony Hayward in an election before I'd vote for any incumbent.

Agreed. They kept asking if he was involved in the decision to do this or that. The answer is NO, I am freaking CEO!

If BP were stupid, they would have brought the right people to answer the questions, instead of the people that the idiots in Congress insisted on.

Not defending BP. But congress and the president mess everything else up. Then raise hell at BP who the hell do they think they are.
