I have plans coming up soon to go to Destin and my buddy booked a deep sea fishing trip for us a few months back.

I am curious to know if they will be halting any fishing in the Ft. Walton/Destin area of the Florida panhandle.

Anybody in the know, who can fill me in I highly appreciate it.

They may not be halting it right now but I know a lot of captains that are getting all they can in before it gets worse. Hopefully you are going very soon is all I can say.

This weekend actually, but all I have been hearing from people is very negative things about oil is all over the beaches in Destin and Ft. Walton, and that nobody will be there.

I wouldn't say all over the beaches but they are getting the tarballs. I'd say if it was this weekend, you *may be okay.

I still have a few buddies going out on a daily basis getting what they can while they can.

*Don't quote me

Good luck!

Check the FL Wildlife Commission site. They should have updates.

The Fish and Wildlife site lead me to NOAA. As of the 7th the waters weren't closed. The 7th was the latest update I could find.

From a story posted last night on nwfdailynews.com

quote:

It’s not only people calling and canceling trips,” said Capt. Scott Robson, president of the Destin Charter Boat Association. “It’s the media. Every other channel has been showing the oil spill. I’ve been out there 60 miles. There is no oil. I’ve caught amberjack and grouper. The oil’s to the west. It’s not here.

What people are you talking to? That shite would be all over the news. Hell, the news flipped out about a few tar balls. Find some new people to talk to.

Just people I know here in Mississippi, and most of it is hearsay.

Thanks for the updated and info about the goings on in NW Fla.

Hopefully our fishing trip will be ok this weekend.
