i know this may sound stupid but is it at all possible for that well down there where the oil is coming out to ignite some way with all the work that is being attempted down there? i mean i know there is the whole gulf of mexico(water) above it but just curious to know with all the iron and what not and chemicals they trying to run down there, can it be possible for anything to ignite/explode and cause that oil well down there to burn and blow up underneath the surface floor? this is earth we frickin with now!
if it could ignite what would exactly happen?

If it could really ignite, they would probably try to do it on purpose.

but that could cause an epic explosion...that well is the size of a city or bigger......

a spark needs air to ignite

the oil is coming out of a 21 inch pipe. Which is much smaller than a city

look on the diagram of the natural well the pipe runs down to........it is as big as a city.....a giant pocket of oil and gas.......

I did hear that they may evacuate rigs in production because of the slick so there must be at least some remote chance of ignition or it could be for worker health.

natural gas would be a better chance.

If it does ignite I know of a good water source nearby that we can use to put it out
