"I know its just a matter of time until oil washes up on Navarre beach, I just hope it isn't alot considering that BP just said they might have the leak capped by Friday"

You sir are a true optimist. But, on the other hand, are living in dreamland. "BP said"

A friend of my in the forestry industry was in the Gainesville area last week and asked the land owner what that awful smell was. He said it was the oil.

That is hard to believe if true. He did say it was a petroleum smell and was terrible.

Interesting site for all in the affected (or potentially affected) areas.

Gulf Coast Air Quality Monitor with Map

Only a couple of yellow dots at the moment. One near Dauphin Island and one south of Tampa.

I don't doubt that your friend smelled something, but I'm in Gulf Breeze (Pensacola area) which is a hell of a lot closer to the coast and to actual oil, and I don't smell oil, not even from the beach. Just seems unlikely it would have been coming from the leak.

I know this shite storm is coming, but I wonder if it is /will come in waves or bands due to water movement. Yesterday afternoon, WEAR channel 3 in Pensacola had a reporter on a charter boat 25 miles of the coast of Dauphin Island and there was no oil, and the boats captain was complaining about closed fishing. However, yesterday evening oil washed up on Dauphin Island, and at least one boat captain reported seeing oil 10 miles off the coast of Pensacola. I don't see how the two can coexists, unless it is coming in waves or it is all under the surface.

Will be in Miramar Beach/Sandestin from June 4th-12th. Think I'll see oil? We're about 6 miles east of. Destin. Hoping to get one more trip in before its all ruined.

It'd be foolish for me to even take a guess at that. Late last week the news said it would hit Alabama shores by Wednesday. Well, last night it showed up at Duahpin Island. I figured once it hit there, it would be about a week before it got here. Well, as you can see by this thread, there are reports of oil just 10 miles of the Pensacola coast, and they think it could hit here today. Destin is only about an hour from here, about 50 miles.

But there really is no way to tell for certain. Right now, the wind is unfavorable for Pensacola, but it could change. Currents are also a factor. It is a real shity situation for all the vacationers, right now. Just no way to be sure if your destination will be impacted by XX date.

that ship has long sailed for me. BP is on par with Al Qaeda in my book. Their negligence was willful and malicious and it will ruin just as many lives - maybe more - before it's all done. the investigation should expose everyone responsible and they should be prosecuted with a white hot vengeance.

This is so dumb its hard to even address this. I am out on Petronius right now and small patches of oil float by every day. NEVER does it smell bad or make any of the 100 people out here feel sick. If I can't smell it when its 75 feet below me, nobody can smell it miles and miles away

it goes way beyond "seeing" oil. It is the smell and you cannot ignore it. It will make you sick to your stomach during your brief stays.

Where do you get this information from? I don't know about you but I went to Grand Isle two weekends ago where there is actually oil in the water and on the beach and I still didn't smell it. I even went on the beach and stood over the oil and still didn't smell it.

O and BP
