Wow some common sense finally....though good luck reaching obama and salazar, unless of course they happen to see them on the back nine.

quote:

The co-chairmen of a presidential commission said Tuesday that moving testimony about the economic damage caused by President Obama's drilling moratorium has convinced them to press the issue.

quote:

former Environmental Protection Agency chief William Reilly, said he can't understand why more hasn't been done to shorten the moratorium, which has been the subject of a federal court battle and now extends through Nov. 30.

quote:

"I come to this experience with a much greater sense of the economic dislocation being experienced here than I had three days ago" before the commission began hearings in New Orleans, Reilly said at a midday news conference. "It's not clear for me why it should take so long to reassure oneself about (safety) considerations on those rigs."

Very suprising stuff, though you would be a fool to think there isn't some ulterior motive, or there isn't a political ploy involved here.

Very interesting comments. I hope they dont fall on deaf ears in washington. I fear the administration has an agenda they are pressing regardless of who gets in the way.

I don't think you need to limit that comment to this administration only.

I would agree most administrations have an agenda and do their best to full fill it. Just to bad for Louisiana and the gulf coast at this particular time.

Wasn't there allegations that the BOA forged the original document anyway?

I bet they open up their ears if we shut down the loop. Obviously last resort type idea but if this issue only largely affects La. than we will continue to get "F".

There are a lot of people from Louisiana up in DC right now lobbying against the moratorium....we should see some progress sooner rather than later

Based on testimony from those who were aboard DWH when the accident happened, weren't existing safety measures bypassed, in turn causing the disaster?

I would think that as long as current rules and regs were adhered to you wouldn't have this problem, so no need for this halt in operations. As others have said, it seems to me like the first step in halting deep water gulf oil production all together.

Common sense would dictate that deepwater drilling be halted until the current gusher is stopped and sealed. All of the resources being deployed to fight this spill (and they're already inadequate) are the same resources listed in other companies' Regional Oil Response Plans. We simply don't have the resources to respond if, God forbid, another "spill" occurred.
