just cancelled destin for july 4th. anyone know if PCB is gonna be spared? What other spots further down the coast are nice for a family beach vacation (closer than 8 hours from Baton Rouge). TIA.
Edit - company gave us until Sunday to cancel. They gave us a clean beach guarantee which states that if the beach is closed then we get a refund or we can change our dates. If the beach is open but has to close on any days we are there then we are refunded the days the beach is closed. Think we are gonna go; we love Destin/Miramar Beach too much.

Nothing on the panhandle is guaranteed to be oil free. You'd have to go all the way to St Augustine or something to know there would be no oil and that is about 10 hours.

I did the same yesterday.
Really hoping PCB will be fine that week. Crossing my fingers.

Past PCB is Mexico Beach and Cape San Blas/St. Joseph's Peninsula. Mexico Beach is really calm water and is close enough to PCB to do stuff there but doesn't have as many people.
Cape San Blas/St. Joe's Peninsula is nice if you don't like a lot of development (no huge high rises), but there's not a lot to do. There's a nice bay to wander around in and (maybe?) catch scallops. I personally love going there, but I like to get away from everything when I'm on vacation. It's about an 8-hour drive from BR though.

3 weeks from now nobody knows. there is still VERY LITTLE oil on the beaches in destin and the beaches are still open. from the recent trajectories ive seen the oil seems to be going east of destin, leaving destin clean, and then moving offshore. hopefully they are correct and the oil stays offshore until then.
i'll be there regardless, hope this is the case

just do this... for an extra few hours driving its worth it. Miles of beach with easy access, big fishing peer, beaches in the state park, historic downtown, lots of good little restaurants. Let me know if you need more info.

There is always oil in the water in PC because of all the greasy rednecks that go there.

Got to pcb today to visit family and apparently oil just washed up on the west end this morning as reported
