America should have thought about that before they didn't prioritize pole vaulting and Mondo. No one's fault but our own.

that's like asking if the cajun played LSU in football would would you pull for. LSU is gonna beat them by 50 every time. Mondo is LSU in this scenario.

Mondo got his arse beat by an American when we wasn’t good enough to win for LSU….

Basically the guy choked his nuts off when he competed for Louisiana yet people here suck his anus

Mondo's excuse is just that, an excuse. He would be a household name here in the US and be very wealthy.

Dude, there are LSU fans that have no clue who Mondo is.

A household name? GTFO

Wealthy - I highly doubt it.

We are talking about pole vaulting.

The American. Then again, that’s only if that American didn’t hate…America.

Now if Mondo wasn't able to make the US team, then I would be more empathetic to him representing another nation.

I was under the impression that if he chose to go to the U.S. Trials that he could not compete for Sweden under Olympic rules.

Is that not the case?

He would be broke.

It’s pole vaulting.

If you say so.

I mean…a bad day in the US trials equals no spot on the team and no cash
VERSUS
a guaranteed spot on the Swedish team and stacks of cash.

Could he have nutted up - sure.
Could he have lost out bigly - yup.
He chose to take the guaranteed spot and bank.

I pass on the guarantee and fortune.

However, that’s how I am wired.

But it’s not like I don’t understand why he chose that path. I would suggest that many people would do the same.

Just my .02.

Why are you doubling down on being ignorant?

He gets 100k everytime he breaks a world record jsut to start which has nothing to do with Sweden

Good to know

ETA Don't have a big problem with Mondo but Gu is a different story altogether

No. As the son of a European immigrant I can attest to the feeling of being both American and also bonded to the "old country." I'm American through and through, but if USA plays the old country in the upcoming World Cup, sorry guys!

Having the personality of a robot wouldn't help his endorsement deals much.

But he could hustle some motivational speech fees at Youth Conferences.

The other issue with Mondo is that the USOC won't pay his dad to coach him. Sweden will.

Well in Gu's case 4 years ago the government could use the "power of the purse" to make her collaborators' lives uncomfortable. Put a clause in their federal grants that makes the institution ineligible if they use any of it in a way that benefits an athlete who:
- Has graduated from an American HS or who has lived in the US for more than half of the previous 10 years; AND
- Elect to compete for any other country (Territories excluded ex. Puerto Rico); AND
- Receives more than $500,000 (excluding NCAA NIL) from sponsors outside of North America.

- The same applies to universities that employ birthright US citizens who accept coaching positions with foreign national federations or paid positions through the foreign athlete.

This keeps the bar low for college sports but prevents gaming the system the way the CCP and Gu's mom have done. In Gu's case this would have stripped Stanford of all federal financial aid and all Stanford coaches would essentially be blacklisted. It doesn't hurt the foreign college kids since they can not access USOC facilities.

I don't have a problem with Pierre from Grenoble (who is a scholarship worthy athlete at a US school) coming here for his college years but that's it. If he stays here past his 4/5 years of eligibility all support disappears unless he is in the process of obtaining citizenship/renouncing his birth country's citizenship. (If the coach continues without those steps being taken, blacklist and issue a show cause to access US facilities for 5 years.)

It's harsh but the only way we are going to stop letting the world freeload on programs supported by our country. Throw up an athletic iron curtain and watch the US resume dominating the Olympics once again.

Gu has literally broken some of you

The sad part is you won't even think about her for 3.9 years in a week or 2

Yeah Eileen's whole persona and politics completely do not align with that of the CCP so she's completely hypocritical.

All that being said, I'm disappointed in the lack of pics in this thread (of Eileen not Mondo).
