First they came for the night hunters, and the OB said nothing because we are not night hunters.

That's about how I feel about it. I complain about dog hunters as much as anybody but I don't want it banned. What I do want is for there to be an easy way to have recourse against dog handlers when their dogs constantly get off the property they are supposed to be on.

In Florida, dogs must be registered with FWC. Also have gps collars, owner name, and phone number. If you are on someone’s else’s land they can report you. After a small amount of infractions you are banned. I’m not sure what the fine or repercussions are because no one I know has had any issues. They do their damndest to obey the rules. They have thoundsands and thousands of dollars invested in Garmin, dogs , truck, etc. That does not count the countless hours feeding dogs and training them, or vet bills. The last thing they want to do is piss that away. They would also be kicked out of our camp promptly.

That is a horrible take on the situation. There are tons of anti-hunting groups lobbying for anti-hunting legislation any giving day.
As of February 2026, a proposed ballot measure known as Initiative Petition 28 (formerly IP13/IP3) is being pushed to ban most hunting, fishing, and livestock farming in Oregon by redefining animal cruelty laws to criminalize killing animals.
Initiative Petition 28 (IP28): Known as the "People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions Act," this proposal removes exemptions for hunting, fishing, and raising livestock, essentially making these activities criminal offenses, with exceptions for self-defense and veterinary care.

Deer Dogging needs to become a high fence activity or on private property so large the dogs won't get off the property. I grew up dog hunting. Had a pack of beagles as a kid for rabbits. I love dog hunting, but deer dog hunting is giving us a bad name and it's damaging the sport by giving anti's another lever.

The odds of them being successful are literally zero. Ain’t happening.
Deer doggers are more trouble than they are worth. Cause far too many disturbances for private land owners and actually turn many folks into anti hunters who would otherwise not give a shite about hunting in general.

Yall need competent wildlife enforcement if people are just dumping dogs wherever they want. It hasn’t been like that around me in 30 years.
