Give microtech and Montana Knife Company a look.
Cool. I am not huge on fixed blade stuff, but I enjoy checking them out. My father in law is a huge knife/gun collector so I have been gifted tons of custom fixed blade stuff from shows he has been to. I pick one to take when camping, but it's hard to work them in as an EDC.
One of my kids got an auto knife at the Blade Show - looks very similar to the Microtech, it could very well be.

Be careful about where you buy it from. I use BladeHQ. I've accidentally bought fakes from ebay and amazon before.

I just bought one from Harbor Freight that has a D2 steel blade. It was $38.

Daily I carry a Boker Kalashnikov auto knife because it has the dagger blade, hefty center spline, keeps an edge, has a strong enough spring for a quick pop and release and cost less than $100. I routinely eyeball Blade HQ and Knifecenter for deals and grab something now and then.

I've had the same one for years. Thinking about grabbing a new one soon, but I don't really "need" to.

Ontario Rat II with a D2 blade. Unbeatable for the cheese

I have several affordable pocket knives...
I'm currently carrying a Kershaw Blur. I try to always do American made. I have several bucks. One of my favorites is a Kabar. It is a Buck knife folding style knife with a clip. I thought it was American but turns out it's Chinese. Either way, for $20 it's a very good knife.

Agreed. Tons of obvious fakes out there from low-review sellers, using the same images. I feel for the folks that spend a lot of fakes. I try to buy from the brand and make sure the brand is the seller, or I buy a used one from a reputable seller.
So far so good, but to be fair I am not buying expensive knives that would ruin me if I got a fake.

That's a format I definitely don't have, looks cool.

Kershaw Leek
Added to wish list, thanks. They have it in orange, too. (I like being able to find my knife if I set it down or drop it)
I've been using an orange Leek for years. Lost the first one at my lease, bought a second, then found the first a few months later laying in the road. I'd have never found a black or green one.

I second this - I bought a couple of very cheap knives from Amazon that no one would have a reason to counterfeit. They don't let fake knives in on purpose, but their system allows for it. By the time you figured it out, it would be too late.
I recommend a well-regarded online knife retailer (BladeHQ is obviously a big one). Particularly for you Louisiana baws, but for anyone, really, is Knifeworks out of Columbia, Louisiana. Great customer service and is a good local company. I always give them the first look.
On the other hand, Benchmade, I buy directly from them as it simplifies things on the warranty and so forth.

I've got a little over 100 knives of all types, sizes, and pricepoints. After losing several "spendy" knives I've settled on the less spendy ones most of the time. I'm a big fan of Civivi and after buying my first one, I was impressed enough to go back and get 3 more models. I picked up a Petrified Fish Pub recently that's really nice but it's got a noticeable weight to it. Lots of love for the Ontario Rat and I have a couple, but I'm not a fan of the opening wart, I don't mind the hole on my Spyderco's, but really like a good flipper like the Civivi and PF.

I have had all types of pocket and clip knives in all price ranges. The absolute best and bang for your buck is the $20 3 pack of kershaws from walmart during xmas time!
I keep a few spare packs and use them as needed. Use them, lose them, and then just grab another. I have one in my pocket now that I bought in Xmas 2022, and I use it daily!

Salt II replaced my benchmade auto as an everyday carry but i am on the water most days and the salt II doesn't rust like the benckmade.

That is a cool looking knife... gonna have to add it to the list, too. Look... I don't need any more stuff, and a pocket knife is an easy gift... doesn't take a lot of space, has a use, and can be left to my heirs. ;-)
I don't care for thumb studs, either, but I don't mind having one to use every now and then. I have a few of the assisted opening flippers, and the jury is till out but I think I don't care for the closing effort compared to a standard flipper.
Civivi is one of my favorite every day carry knives, but I found two at the blade show that I have grown to like for their size, weight, clip, and opening.
Honey Badger - smaller in size. Opens great, sharp, fits well in pocket.
Ruike - one sided scale, so it's super slim, but the blade has heft to it for when you need a little more. Very happy with how it opens. On the fence about the one sided scale thing, but it doesn't matter ultimately.

I have that set, lol. They are pretty nice, not a huge fan of the tiny one, but it makes a nice re-gift to a kid. The closing on them is my only gripe, honestly.
$15 for 3 quality knives... crazy deal. Even if they were junk, it would be a good deal.

yeah I had no idea they'd fake a $29 dollar knife and sell it for $28. Sly bastards.

That's a great point. I just had to clean up and salvage an old timer that was in my kid's tackle box. He has a generic fixed blade bait knife that does the trick, but I think a good rust-resistant multi tool couldn't hurt.

X2. I have a few and haven’t spent more than $40-$50 on any of them.
My favorite is the Scallion and followed by the Cryo II
