Check consumer reports reliability on 2017+ Ridgelines. It’s pretty bad and it’s mainly the transmission and torque converter.

The 6 speed was an issue in the 2017-2019. The new 9 speed 2020+ models don’t have the issue.

I don’t think you can buy a new one with the baby duramax any longer.

My dad has a 2021 Canyon AT4 with it. Only has 8K miles on it. It’s a little beast.

They don't make what is apparently one of the best midsized pickups ever built any longer. Still available with low mileage but you gotta be prepared for the "sticker" shock.

Good, because it’s a glorified minivan with a pathetic payload and towing capacity (5,000 lbs). For comparison a new ford Ranger can tow 7,500 lbs.

This is one of the reasons that I chose the Ranger over the Ridgeline. In 4 years I haven't towed something over 4000 lbs a single time. The only thing I've done with the Ranger that would be iffy with the Ridgeline was putting a cubic yard of mason sand in the bed and driving 50 miles with it. With as much as I drive I wish I had gone with the Ridgeline just based on comfort, it was a much smoother ride. I'm not unhappy with the Ranger, just wish I'd considered comfort more than overall capability.

7500 pounds in a ranger would be terrifying.

Max towing with any 1/2 ton should be terrifying, mfg tow ratings are bullshite. They know few will ever tow anything but those numbers get the dick measures pumped up.

A minivan is all the truck 99% of Americans will ever need.

There's actually an SAE standard for rating them now and somehow since that became a thing ratings on half tons have gone up dramatically.

They must use oddball truck configurations and very specialized trailers to get that much weight on the trailer with low tongue weights. I know my ~4,500 pound boat isnt fun to tow with a 2024 half ton.

You can check that by looking at the trailer receiver. If there’s no hitch/ball on it and it looked like a hitch has never even been inserted, then they probably don’t need a truck. But this is America. We have all kinds of stuff we don’t need, but it sure is nice to have.

Ridgeline is a Pilot with a bed, unibody and front wheel drive unless it is AWD and then it has a light duty rear axle with a viscous coupler that only transfers about 60% power to the rear axle.

If I'm going to buy a 4wd it will have a 2 speed transfer case and a full frame underneath

No, it's got 4 wheel independent suspension.

I suspect that would exceed the load capacity of any "1/2" ton pickup...probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.25 tons of sand in a yard of sand if it ain't wet. I suspect the payload of most 1/2 ton trucks is less than a ton. It used to be 1000 pounds, that's why they are called 1/2 tons but they would always carry more than that without any problem. I got a ton of gravel in the bed of a 1969 chevy 1/2 ton once and it was fine but the idiot who loaded it dropped it from about 10 feet LOL...damn near turned that old work horse of a truck over...

With trailer brakes it'd be fine if it was evenly distributed.

Most trucks aren't used to do anything a Ridgeline can't do with a better daily ride. I wouldn't think twice about pulling most bass boats with a Ridgeline if it was also my daily driver. I suspect a Ford Maverick AWD would pull most bass boats fine. Might be a problem stopping on some ramps though....and that is something no one should experience LOL....

Pre-1980s a lot of people pulled their boats with cars, bc nobody back then wanted a pickup truck. Sure, the cars were rear wheel drive and big, but they weren’t trucks and didn’t have high tow or payload ratings.

All trucks are ugly. They're tools. The new Toyotas look like a lego kit, but if they fit my needs I'd buy one.

When we moved to Germany in 2007 we had a 2006 gas V6 AWD KIA Sportage we shipped to Germany. Europeans LOVE camping and I would say they own about as many travel trailers as we do in the US. The vehicle of choice to tow those trailers was that exact model KIA Sportage....European specs so a little more HP due to lower emissions standards but not by a bunch. These are not tiny campers, 24 foot ones were common. They would drag those sizeable campers over the Alps from Germany to Italy without a second thought. If we saw someone doing that in the US we would think they had lost their minds. They do the same thing with Mitsubishi pickups, what we would call a compact pickup, and horse and cattle trailers. LOADED with horses and cows LOL...and running 90 MPH on the motorway and autobahn....in snow. I cant say if those vehicles lasted very long but as cheap as Germans are I would suggest that they were getting every penny out of those vehicles....
