Looking to book this winter for 2026. The plan has been for Larsen Bay Outfitters given they drop you off on a boat (or you could snipe one from the boat) and you hike in for Blacktail. They prefer it to be November for the deer to be down on the beach. Then fish or blast Harlequins if you so choose for your stay.

But given Alaska has dropped down the Blacktail tags from 3 to 1 tag for nonresidents it’s casted a cloud over my planned trip if only for the meat to price ratio.

I still wanna do it, given you can bring home not only deer but ducks and fish too. But certainly only being able to bring home 1 deer stinks compared to 3.

Anyone have any recommendations if you’ve done it before besides Larsen Bay? I’ve looked them up and down, talked to them on the phone, emailed, watched videos, feel confident with them, but still over 2 months to go before booking I’m open to recommendations if yall have them.

Steve Rinella has hunted them there a couple times I believe? That’s a long way for black tail they aren’t very big so I’m not sure I’d be stressing about the meat return lol.

The weather is the big X factor on hunts like that and you just don’t know until you go as it’s all planned way ahead of time. But hunts like that can be absolutely amazing with tons of memories made.
