I like to feel that thump on a jig and set the hook but I also like free lining a live shrimp or pogy and feel it kicking hard right before it gets rekt

Watching a cork go down never gets old either Whether it’s plastic or a Cricket, shiner, nightcrawler, shrimp, cocahoe, whatever

I fish with kids a lot so I also always bring a tub of frozen shrimp. If plan a,b,c,…z fails. We are gonna anchor down and catch something

Superior? Was never even a thought. It's about enjoyment.

Maybe a poor choice of words on my part? My thought is that we get so wrapped up in fishing a certain type of way for certain fish and forget that going back to basics can be incredibly enjoyable as well.

I think it’s because certain bait is an easy button for certain types of fishing because you can buy shrimp or whatever. But bait can be a game in itself. If you’re complaining about the price of shrimp, buy a cast net and learn how to throw it and find bait. You’ll be a better fisherman for it no matter what you put on your hook.

If you read the trout masters books, the old guys talk about catching big croakers on a rod and reel the night before a rodeo, or finding the perfect sized pogies to cast net. Same for offshore fishing, the guys who consistently do the best are typically the best at finding the right bait. Not all bait is an easy button.

I also don’t think it matters that much. If you enjoy the way you fish and it’s legal, who cares.

Grew up throwing a cast net off the dock for shrimp, pinfish, etc...

I've been out at 3am dragging for our own croaker then hitting Black Bay at 4am

If you can do this then you are well ahead of the curve. I'm still trying to figure it all out

Oh I’m terrible at it, I just recognize that it takes some serious skills. I wish I had some knowledge about pulling a bait trawl, seems like that has kind of died off.

It's a guy I fish with. He just tells me pull this line in or let the other slack out more, etc...

It's the best, besides a big topwater blow-up. BUT I like catching trout any way possible. Will probably load up on live croakers and take my son one day later this week. Will always have at least a dozen live shrimp in the baitwell for Tripletail during the summer, regardless of what else I'm fishing.

Finicky bastards. Live is the only way they will commit 100% of the time. I can sometimes get them on a DOA (remove the weight from belly).

Had two that wouldn't eat dead shrimp OR a DOA last week. Finally remembered to get some live shrimp on the next trip and caught the first one of the year as soon as I put it in front of him.

They are .40 at sweetwater. I’ve never seen that big of a price difference.

That's insane. $5/dz for shrimp and $6/dz croakers is all I've seen this year.
