You can't have a pocket pistol thread without mentioning Kel-Tec. If you are not a caliber snob, go fire the P-3AT. If you want 9mm, try the PF-9. I don't know if they still hold the record but at their release, the P-3AT was smallest/lightest semi-auto .380 ever made while the PF-9 is smallest/lightest auto 9mm ever made.

I carry the PF-9 (because of my hand size) and love it. It's not a true pocket size, but close. Kel-Tecs do take some mods and practice but they really are awesome guns.

If I get caught with a gun at work I'll be asked to leave the jobsite immediately. That being said I'm not traveling without a gun and have a j frame that Ill stick in the front pocket of my jeans. If I'm sitting down and you are looking for it you'll probably see it but in and out of gas stations in the middle of the night I fell better than not having something at all.

Smith shield 9mm or a j frame smith IMO

This. In that order. Both > .380 anything.

eta: Carry in a holster (that covers the trigger).

It might have been at one time. The Ruger LC9, Kahr CM9/PM9, and Diamondback DB9 are all smaller.

I figured someone would. My palm is wide, I have the grip extension, and I still have to three finger shoot it with pinky off the grip. Even with that, I am pretty damn accurate even one handed.

IMO a gun's grip is the determining factor in concealability and comfort. Too many people focus on barrel or overall length. Most people mod gtips so its tought to compare apples to apples.

They seem to be making 9mm's smaller and smaller now. That said, I currently own 2 .380's. I have the Glock 42 and a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard. If you want a really small handgun that can actually fit in your pocket with no issues the S&W Bodyguard and the Ruger LCP are your best bets.

My Bodyguard is for sale if you are interested.

agree, if you are going .380, go for something that is actually a pocket pistol. .380 is not something you practice with all the time.

i carry a Kahr CM9 but its a tad bit heavy for a pocket

I prefer that my primary self defense handgun NOT be a pocket pistol. Although I don't want to get shot w/ a 380 ACP, I think there are better self defense rounds. Having said that, I myself own a "pocket pistol" and I realize there are times one may have to use a pocket gun as their primary weapon. It's just my personal preference, but I think most are best served by a DAO gun whether it's a revolver or semi-auto. Good semi auto's in this category would include 380's in the Ruger LCP, Kahr CW380, S&W Bodyguard and Kahr P380. Although I've never shot one, I'm not a fan of the Glock model 42 because of it's size; it's considerably bigger than true pocket guns. For about the same size as the M42 there are a number of single stack 9mm's that are available. For the revolver fan, a sub nose 38 Spec such as the S&W J frame and Ruger LCR are good choices. My pocket gun is a Kel-Tec P3-AT and I've had good results w/it, but that hasn't been everyone's experience.

If one can find a way to carry using an inside the waist band holster, there are a large number of single stack 9mm guns available. Some of the ones that come to mind include: Kahr CW9/PM9/P9, Ruger LC9, Springfield XDS, S&W M&P Shield, Sig Sauer 250 and Beretta Nano. For those willing to adequately learn the SAO platform, I'd throw in the Sig 938 as well as a reliable 1911 (either Officer or Commander size). A number of the single stack 9mm's can be carried in some pockets, but the true pocket pistols can be carried in almost all pockets.

I'll assume from your name that you're a lady. If you can consider carrying concealed off body, e.g. in a purse, you won't have to settle for a pocket pistol; the single stack 9mm's are an option and, in my opinion, are a better choice.

Whether you carry your gun in a pocket or in a purse, please buy a quality holster to provide some protection to both the gun and it's safety.

kind of like new glock 42

If you want an actual pocket pistol, the G42 is not the smallest out there. It is dimensionally smaller than my Kahr CM9 (same size as the PM9) that is chambered in a more powerful cartridge.

I also ask if you are male or female because tiny guns are NOT fun to shoot. They are good for concealed carrying but not fun at the range. Shooting a tiny gun results in nasty recoil. They are for one purpose - concealing and carrying. If you don't plan on carrying it, buying a full sized gun makes a lot more sense.

In my opinion, a Kahr CW380 is the best 380 pocket gun out there. I would not go smaller in caliber.

A gun like the CW380 will fit virtually all pockets whereas the G42 will only fit in some.

EDIT: Tiger has some great info about single stack 9mms. Forgot to mention that!
