catahoula lake.....public or private or both...
A little controversy over where I used to hunt. Pretty sure a donation of land by a neighbor fixed this problem for good.
So the police jury says it's a public body of water for public use.....
And since the public has always used this privat property so the public should still get to use it....
In other words they is crazy

I live in the area but have never hunted the lake much. Occasionally with friends but I have seen first hand people being run out if blinds. Never seen any get burnt but have heard the stories. There are thousands of acres of private land around the lake that gets flooded. The rumors of the state/fedarals doing something about the situation have been floating around as long as I can remember. There has never been anything done and doubt that there ever will.
If you want to hunt the lake, my advice is to hunt it from a boat with pop up and stay clear of the permanent blinds. There are, most times, 4-8 people in a blind. Pretty sure 2 buddies in a 16' duck boat don't stand much chance against 5 or 6. FWIW

We used to hunt the cat a good bit back in the late 90's...one of my best ever hunts was back in some timber right off the lake. Mallards, pins, Greys and widgeon...funneling into the hole. It's a beautiful site to see the sheer numbers of birds out there when its right. They pile up in the refuge by the thousands. If I knew how to post a pic I could show one that usually impresses most people who've never experienced the place. One buddy still has a blind on the south end of the lake but we used to hunt in the afternoons a good bit during the week and use other ppls blinds some as well. Had some good hunts just walking out to the trees and tossing a few dozen dekes. Fond memories of that place...will get back out there again next yr for the first time in 13-14 yrs.
I never experienced the bad side of the cat but have heard the stories from guys that have hunted there for years...blind burning, slashed tires, dropped drive shafts out of trucks at the landing, etc. it's a different world up in cenla...from catahoula to grassy lake....different breed of folks that enjoy making things difficult for the rest of the folks.
Good luck if you try to learn the place. Don't try to kick its arse all at one time. Spend some time learning it and you'll likely meet somebody with some knowledge that is willing to share a little.
