I just had to put mine down last month, he was going on 13. Took him on hunts to South Dakota and Kansas, but he was not a hunting dog, he was a family dog, and a great one at that.
I would caution anyone who does not plan on hunting them, or does not have enough space for them to do what bird dogs do, not to get one. You said you're looking for a finished dog, so obviously planning to hunt him, but they need to exercise all year round, not just during hunting season. If they do not get it exercise, they will destroy the tiny area they are confined to, either through boredom or overuse. I barely had a blade of grass left in my back yard of my old house from the track he would run, he also broke through a door and destroyed a Ruff Land kennel.
Having a couple acres with a GPS collar (because he would run straight through the electric fence) on him at our new house with a doggy door fixed a lot of issues, but he never really slowed down, he was full of energy almost to the very end. They are a bigger commitment than most other dogs, I won't get another GSP, but am looking into a Pudelpointer.
