The Honorable Bill Cassidy
455 Dirksen Senate Office Building Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senators Cassidy and Kennedy,

I am writing to respectfully urge you to support H.R. 1, particularly the inclusion of the Hearing Protection Act (HPA), which would remove firearm suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA).

The continued taxation and registration of NFA items—especially suppressors—is not only constitutionally questionable, but it also represents a clear infringement on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. The Founders never intended for a fundamental right to be taxed or delayed through excessive federal regulation. Suppressors, which are legal to own in over 40 states, are safety tools—not weapons of war. They protect hearing, reduce noise pollution, and offer practical value for sportsmen, hunters, and responsible gun owners alike.

By forcing citizens to pay a $200 tax and endure an often 9–12 month wait period simply to take ownership of a suppressor, the government is actively deterring the exercise of a constitutional right. No other constitutionally protected liberty is treated this way. Imagine being taxed and delayed for months before being allowed to speak freely, vote, or worship.

In addition to the constitutional issues, repealing the suppressor provisions under the NFA would be a major boost to the American firearms and suppressor manufacturing industries. Removing these burdens would stimulate growth among U.S. manufacturers, increase demand for legally produced NFA items, and create new jobs in a sector already closely tied to domestic innovation and skilled labor.

Senators, Louisiana has a proud tradition of firearm ownership and support for constitutional liberties. I ask that you stand with your constituents, stand with our Constitution, and support the passage of H.R. 1 with the full inclusion of the Hearing Protection Act.

Thank you for your continued service to the people of Louisiana .

Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
[City, TN]

Heard something the other day that made me pause. If they become considered accessories and not an FFL item, that they may be easier to ban like a bump stock? 2nd amendment protects firearms and suppressors at this point. They aren’t FFL , they aren’t protected under the second amendment? Thoughts?
