I heard a few years ago in Mississippi that was one of the reasons why to bring land prices down. It’s all a big hoax

It will be like anything else man tries to fix or control, a colossal waste of money and ineffective or much worse results.

Is it Illinois that has been shooting a ton of deer to reduce the herd numbers, which has slowed the spread?
mass culling kills healthy resistance deer at any level, nothing works to manage CWD except to let it take its course.

I saw on LDWF’s site they’ve had 1 positive for a while. Is this the same one? 1002 in the tag number?

LINK - CWD Test Results

I’m interested, when did he shoot it and how long did it take for them to notify him?

A lot of guys will go from the cleaning table straight to the processor - so a 2 week delay on a + result… what happens to the deer mixed in at the processor, and his equipment, etc?

This is the icing on the cake of why I have never liked bringing deer to a processor, no way to guarantee you're getting your deer back or one that sat for 10 hours on a hot day.

Doesn't matter. CWD has been around since deer have been around. I am 45 and I've killed over a 100 deer in my life and chances are I've eaten a deer that's had CWD. It's not transmissible to humans, don't let Fauci know, and it's a scare tactic to gain more power and federal funds.

If cwd is anything like CJD every table/saw/knife/grinder would need to be incinerated before the prion could be killed.

LINK - cleaning study

Looks like there was a study published in April and bleach seems to work along with a few other items - but not plain dish soap. Didn’t dig too far into it but figured I would put it here for those who would be interested.

From the abstract:
quote:

In this study, we demonstrate that steel and plastic surfaces used in venison processing can be directly contaminated with CWD prions and that cross-contamination of CWD-negative venison can occur from equipment that had previously been used with CWD-positive venison. We also show that several decontaminant solutions (commercial bleach and potassium peroxymonosulfate) are efficacious for prion inactivation on those same surfaces.

When meateater was heavy talking about cwd I wondered how they’d track their knives and ice chests. It does sound like cleaning methods are available.

How long does the test take to come back?

And for the dumbass on the board, what is cjd?
