Very little daytime movement here in NW Amite County this weekend. I have several does and an 8 that have been regular visitors behind the house. I took my little girl Saturday evening and of course they show after dark. I’m gonna sit on the ground Wednesday morning and see if they make an appearance.

Heading up Wednesday. Going to go set up a tripod on an untouched area looking 30ft down into an open creek bottom.

A buddy who hunts north of town reports young bucks chasing some, not much daytime movement/activity on his cameras.

I checked cameras and sat for a sunset hunt yesterday. No real evidence of rut activity as of yet in the clearings, day or night. Does with fawns feeding throughout all hours of the night, not followed by bucks. Had a couple spikes on camera, one middle of the night, one 8AM. Bigger bucks I know are around from rubs made in the last couple days, just not showing themselves out in the open.
If the does are not separated from their fawns, and not being followed by bucks, it seems right to conclude they're not hot yet.
Make sense? Agree?

Boon and Crockett is short stopping the deer.

What is the update.
I really have no movement does with fawns and a small spike. My brother 1/2 west of me is having the same luck. This is usually the week they get going.

Well I honestly don't have the rut timing figured out for our spot. This is what I do know - does/fawns still traveling together. I don't see any black hocks on the cams or thick necks. Two weeks ago I saw some young bucks coming behind does but nothing real aggressive and really nothing that would make me think they are in full rut. I've got some scrapes that are new that seem active but not many.
Going some of the next few nights to see what is up and this weekend.

I hunted Wednesday through Friday. It was cold and windy. Saw all young deer. Buddy got there Saturday and shot a nice 8pt that afternoon. Saw a 6, 8, and 10 after a doe. He’s a saddle hunter so he gets to hunt more areas where we don’t have stands.

They killed 3 bucks at our place in the last week. I’m going Friday with my little girl to see if she can get a shot.

Last weekend in Brookhaven it was the worst hunting we have had all season. Doesn't even appear that the rut has happened yet.
One guy shot an 8 point but he just happened to jump it walking out the woods

The property we own is in northern Amite County. I took my 11 year old son yesterday afternoon and we didn’t see anything. Taking my little girl behind the house when they get home from school. I have a few does and a small buck showing up regularly.

Same tune everywhere, that Moon didnt help but the nocturnal Flu Pandemic is strong this year

My place in Union Church is beyond frustrating. We had 95% nocturnal activity the entire month of December with hundreds of pics on different cameras. We hunted hard this past weekend and saw the least amount of activity since August. One particular cell cam I set up two weeks ago on a creek crossing had the biggest buck we had on camera. This camera has not snapped a single picture since late Friday night, while it shows the signal being 100% with 80% battery life.
I can't decide if I should give it another shot this weekend or stay home and try to catch up on honeydoos.

Drop by the Jerry Clower museum. That should make you feel better. Route 4 Liberty MS.

I aint far from you and the last few weeks of the season are the best for us, last year, day after the season I had the big one we were all hunting running does in the backyard...in daylight
The late rut is evident by the number of young small fawns late into the season, I had a spotted fawn the first week of December
I would love for them to close the season the first 3 weeks of December and then give us the first 2-3 weeks of February for bucks only

Hunted Saturday afternoon, checked cams first. All deer on camera after 6PM/before 6AM, no bucks.

I’ve learned to get 2 deer between muzzle loader and the first 2 weeks of rifle. Then don’t hunt December until after Christmas. Hunt hard the first 2 weeks of January.

I had three 3 YO bucks bird dogging a doe at midday on Saturday in central Wilkinson County. Last year I got big daddy doing the same thing on the 19th, so I'm anticipating some good action over the next several weeks. I prefer the post rut anyway. We can't complain about the weather, although I don't think that has anything to do with it.

We had a good rut in early January and its dropped off over the last few weeks. Over the last 10 days, we'd seen small bucks and spikes checking in, but over the last few days we're starting to see more mature bucks with their heads up. Could be a secondary rut about to hit before the end of the month. Weather will not be as good as earlier this month, but they'll still play the game.
