It was definitely bites. You could see where the killer adjusted its grip.

That picture was taken right after it was first found. I have spoken with some people who have hunted big cats that say a cat will do that too. That is where the predator can get the most meat the fastest.

I also learned that the carcass was dragged off about 150 yards and the camera was put up.

And the camera got nothing? Coyotes don't care about where it is so much. They'll eat it where it lays. Which leads me to think coyote kill since it started eating it in the road. But you're right a cat will do that as well and a cat is more likely to come move it. But then the cat will try to cover it somewhat with leaves, limbs whatever. If it was uncovered, it's yotes. If it was, it's a lion.

People dragged it off. It was only 100 yards from a house. They then put up the camera. I don't think there is much significance to what came later.

Normally when coyotes kill a deer there's at least two of them doing it. And the one that actually does the work is the one working on the arse and back legs. They tear them up back there to slow them down and bleed them out. If they can tear a tendon so much the better. But they don't kill by grabbing the windpipe normally. They don't care about that and if they did, they don't have a way of grabbing the body to hug up close enough so that deer doesn't beat their arse with their front hooves.

Cats on the other hand wrap them up and sink their claws in and hang on till they stop breathing.

There's no blood on those legs. That wound in the arse was after she was dead.

I think you've got either a big bobcat or a mountain lion.

Looks like a cougar to me.

Coyotes will hamstring a deer. A cat will go for throat.

The lack of tracks points to cat as well.

Go get some red glass ball christmas ornaments and hang them on a string from a tree limb 4' above a few leghold traps (#6 or bigger short coil with a drag). Or watch your arse walking to that stand in the dark.

No way. Look at the second pic of the bites. That's two to three yotes grabbing on and re-adjusting grip. A large cat wouldn't make punctures that small, and it would be one clean bite to the windpipe, where it held on.

No bobcat is that big, and I have serious doubts about a mountain lion hunting in broad daylight with a loud tractor in the area.

Then that's one damned weird coyote because he's an ambush killer who goes for the throat and can take a deer kicking the shite out of him and hanging on to the throat the whole time because there's not a spec of blood running down those back legs like you'd see on almost any other coyote kill.

And yes there are bobcats that big. I've seen a couple of them bigger than that coyote right there. One of them was significantly bigger. Right by my house. Crossed the road in front of me and ran up the side of a cypress so I stopped the car right underneath him and got a good long look at him. When he crossed he looked like a fricking lab without a tail. That cat was more than big enough to kill a deer.

Bobcat, some of the big toms can and will kill deer like that. In this heat it won't take long for yotes to smell and come to it.

Maybe someone really was THAT hungry that they decided to eat the arse out of a dead deer. I guess they couldn't find a rhinoceros, giraffe, etc.

I guess it's possible a big bobcat could get the job done, but it doesn't really look like the deer's shoulders and chest are torn up where he would have clung on. If there's scratch marks on those places to go along with all the little punctures around the neck then mystery solved. To me it still looks like a couple yotes ran it, maybe nipped it in the hind quarters but never latched on, and then once it was out of gas they all grabbed the neck and held it down. I'm thinking it was something like this:
