Its is a little work but I always enjoyed that part. I raced and Allison XR-2001 for years and had it so that you could drive it with your finger tips. Really didnt even have to "drive" it. Give a small steering adjustment as it was getting set and then just hold it. My current XB is pretty much the same. I totally agree with what you said about people would be shocked about the water they can take. Darris proved weight is not a factor in ride quality, put that keel down a little and let er eat!

I fish all over southeast Louisiana in mine. Mostly in Lake Ponchartrain and the Biloxi marsh. Ride is dry and with only a 200 it's very fuel efficient, even for an old 2 stroke.

Had a 93 Astro F-18. Would do about 73-74 with a Merc 175. Was a bear to drive.

Always thought I preferred smooth riding slow boats until I got the right prop and learned to drive the Astro.
Don’t own a boat now but when I do again, I hope it’s an Allison.

I’ve yet to see a video of anything good happening in one of the bass boats going 80+ mph. So much can go wrong so quickly.

I have hooked at 90+ , it happens really fast and nothing you can do but hang on for the ride. Those hulls are amazing cause I didn’t get wet, just did a 90 degree bat turn.

Back when I tournament fished, I also fished with one of the local bass clubs - it's the 2nd oldest in BR, and was one of the biggest.

I had an Allison for a few years, but for most of that period I owned a Bullet (including my current 21' Bullet w/ 250 Pro XS). I was always known in the club as the guy with the slowest boat.

When the club's tournament chairman released the boats (at safe daylight), if we were launching in the Spillway there would always be a few boats trying to get ahead of me. I could easily blow past them - and then slow down to a safer speed. Everybody learned to just follow my boat if we were going to the same fishing area, because they knew they couldn't outrun me, and that after I passed them I wasn't going to run at full throttle - hence my boat's reputation as being the slowest.

60-65 mph is plenty fast on the ICWW. Boat is on the pad and engine isn't straining at all. In the interior of the Basin, 45 mph is a better/safer speed due to the curving bayous and canal intersections.

I don't race, haven't been in a wreck, and haven't had one blow out on me. I'll leave all that to the younger guys.
