I'm not discouraging you from taking the above steps just trying to set your expectations. It's going to be a long, frustrating process, I'd try to keep my expenses low.

Rgr. I had been trying but every time I hit a road block I want to go with the nuclear option, agree that it would be expensive for an attorney but I need results. I am going to sleep on it though and consider all my options.

it's Higgins so while he's very pro-2A

No he is not. He is the most authoritarian politician in the state. He may RA RA about 2A but he doesn't support it. He loves the restrictions and the illegal gun laws and how they help the government trample on citizens rights.

I'm not sure what changed but I did all the stuff you are mentioning over 10 years ago and all of a sudden I'm back in good standing.

Damn that's nuts. I test them out every few months but now it's just the same as you were...before they hang up the phone I'm like, be back in 3 business days.

Literally what “red flag” laws are for

She should be red flagged.

I came home from work, she came back later from the bar and wanted to fist fight. I locked her out of the bedroom and she tried to beat holes in the door, then broke shite in the kitchen and left. I went to bed because I had to pick up our kid early in the morning. She called the cops and told them I was hitting her. They woke me up and saw the mess when I opened the door and instantly went, turn around and put your hands behind your back.

She called them the next day and said it was a misunderstanding and didn't want to press charges. frickin brawds.

I think they're all reprehensible and abhor even listening to a single politician speak. However they are supposed to be in our public service so gotta push them to do their job at the very least.

No, I'm not a prohibited person and can still purchase

If you can still purchase, what’s the issue here?

igging into it, they did something which flagged an old arrest, from 18 years ago, that went nowhere. Charges were dropped. But somehow that was enough to flag me, so they denied it.

You are a criminal. You should never be able to own a firearm again. Since you are a criminal you should just get an illegal suppressor. You have nothing to lose.

Sounds like you need a civil rights or constitutional lawyer, not a firearms lawyer.

Having to wait is an inconvenience.

Where it bites you is at something like a gun show. Basically you are prohibited from buying because no seller is going to wait around for 3-5 day no response window. They are only in town for the weekend.

Academy has to have a response as they don't abide by the window of no response rule. I bought one from them and it took over 40 days to finally get an official proceed. That was the last gun I ever bought from academy.

The academy purchase was the one where I ended up getting a letter of disposition from the DA in the Parish I was arrested over a decade prior. I supplied that directly to the FBI. Like I said that was 15 years ago.

I'm not in disagreement, but maybe also if people didn't go around getting arrested the feds would have a tougher time getting their boot on the people's neck.

What a shitty take. I was arrested for trespassing on my own property. there are some shitty cops out there.

bro... you obviously are prone to making bad decisions if you married this woman. That just doesn't happen over night with the flip of a switch

I may be way off base, but…… I think I read on another local shooting forum that the department that handles this at the ATF isn’t even funded at the moment.
A guy had an old state offense expunged. 20 years ago. Bought guns until Obama came along. Long thread on bayou shooter. You may want to check it out.
Interesting.

No reason to give them any more excuses to trample your rights than they already have.

Well he could go buy a silencer from the arrested. Everyone wins.

Daniel Phillips at Oats and Moreno in Lafayette does gun trusts but not sure what else. Clay Higgins might be your Congressman and if so he is very responsive and pro 2A. Not a wimp by any means.

I've been fighting with the FBI and ATF for over a year now. They just wrongly denied my 2nd VAF. Going the Congressman route and I'm sick of fricking with them. Very strongly considering suing, or at least pay someone else to do this circus.

Why not build your own silencer, post photos on Facebook, and after they arrest you and shoot your dog, you can fight it in court that they violated you 2A, Heller, Bruen, etc. and get the court to drop charges while also declaring the AFT unconstitutional dickheads. Win/win
