heading to the Pacific NW in late July for a family trip and would like to get on the water for a day or two. Will be splitting time between the San Juan islands/ Olympia NP and the Oregon Coast and would like to get out on the water for a day or two. Do t really care about species, just whatever is biting at that time. Would appreciate any advice regarding charters, etc thanks

How far south are you heading on the Oregon coast?

I think getting on a charter there is your best bet.

Garibaldi has charters.

Depoe Bay, world’s smallest harbor, has charters.

Pacific city you could go on a Dory boat which would be an awesome experience. Something I’ve yet to do but it’s on the list. Search it on YouTube. They launch from the beach.

Halibut might still be open. Typically a halibut trip includes targeting Ling Cod, which are amazing tasting, and sometimes Black Sea bass.

Some trips toss crab pots out on the way out and pick them up on the way back.

If you like to crab, check out the season dates for dunginess because you can likely do that on your own for fairly inexpensive and can do it off docks and what not. Basically the same techniques as blue crabbing. I went to a wedding and we stayed on Pugent sound. The house had a crab trap and we put it out with a row boat about 50-100 ft from shore and ended up catching 12-14 crabs in 3 nights. Some were undersized so we threw them back but ate 8-10 from memory.
