hen you're post makes even less sense. It's a bad idea to carry without a loaded chamber, yet it's not a bad idea to not carry at all. Wowzer.

I don't concealed carry, but that's because I don't have the need in my everyday life. If I were to CC, then I'd have one the chamber.

Don't see what's so hard about this.

Do they look the same?

Obviously.

No one has a problem with you or anyone carrying with one in the chamber. Some of us have a problem with the notion that carrying without one in the chamber is a "bad idea". That simply makes no sense when you consider that not carrying at all is not a bad idea.

Is it that hard of a concept to grasp?

Ah.

Not carrying is not a bad idea, depending on circumstances. In my everyday life, I'm not in an area where I think I need to be armed. If I visited or worked in certain parts of Baton Rouge, I'd be more likely to CC.

As it is, I've assessed my risk and found that not CCing is fine, coupled with an awareness of my surroundings and environment.

I'd like to invite you to an IDPA match that is held in Amite. This is a pistol match that attempts to mimic realistic shooting scenarios and where you get to "test your setup".

It helped open my eyes and revealed some flaws in my assumptions and techniques.

The next match is on April 7th - entry fee for new shooters is 5.00. You'll need a holster that covers the trigger guard, at least three magazines, and around 120rds of ammo.

I still don't think y'all see his point.

People in this thread are making it seem like this is the ranking in order from most prepare to least prepared:
1.Carrying with a round in the chamber
2.Not carrying a gun at all
3.Carrying without one in the chamber

When in reality it's
1.Carrying with a round in the chamber
2.Carrying without one in the chamber
3.Not carrying at all

While keeping the chamber empty may not be ideal for all self defense situations, it's still better than having nothing but your fists. To argue otherwise is just plain silly.

Troll is trolling that simple

I never said no round in the chamber = nothing at all. i just think its a little pointless. bad shite happens fast...

No you didn't, but the sentiments of a lot of the posters seemed to echo that.

And when it doesn't happen fast, you can rack the slide and be ready to go, rather than having no gun...

FTR I only have a .22 mag revolver, and I keep a round in every cylinder when it's in my truck.

But to say carrying a gun with a clip full of ammo, without having a round in the barrel is silly.

1. You keep posting variations of this opinion, but repetition doesn't make your opinion any more valid than it was the first time. I'm willing to bet you have never had any formal defensive handgun training. If you have ever taken a course that recommended carrying with an empty chamber, I'd love to get the name of your instructor.

2. You mentioned your child in an earlier post. I've had students refer to similar "What if my baby gets my gun" fears. Different issue. Another reason for training. And another reason for having a weapon that's readily accessible -- you are the protector.

3. I believe you said in an earlier post you can load the gun in two seconds ? As anyone with any level of serious training can tell you, that's woefully slow. Google "Tueller Drill." Then tell me how well you can protect the child you love if you need two seconds just to load your gun.

4. And what if, for some reason, you only have one hand available to to use (maybe you've been cut or otherwise injured by an attacker, or maybe you had to pick up your child to protect her from a Rottweiler or a pit bull). Tell me again how quickly you can rack that slide with one hand.

5. How many cops you know that are trained to carry an unloaded weapon.

6. If you're that worried about carrying a loaded gun, maybe consider a retention holster. Not generally recommended for CCW, but in your state of mind -- maybe not such a bad idea.

I think you're confusing me with another poster, I only jumped in at the end.

Like I said I have nothing but a SA .22 revolver for now and it stays loaded. I don't have kids or anything, I'm a 21 year old college student. I do keep a youth model 20 gauge handy in the apartment as well, but not loaded.

I have no training. I may take a CC class someday. A new pistol (Glock 21 most likely) is somewhere in the near future for me. If I get my CCW I'm gonna get something smaller too. A little keltec or something.

I'm out, but before I go I just want to say, I don't think anybody argued that keeping the chamber empty is as good as or better than keeping it loaded. We know it's not. But you can't tell me that person with a full mag and empty barrel is no better protected than the guy out there without so much as a pocket knife.

First of all , you're scrutinizing the wrong poster. I'm the one with the kid. And cops are trained to have a round chambered, because they deal with bad guys, not kids. Also, I have never once said that I open or conceal carry; only that I have a self defense weapon in my car. If I don't want that gun sitting in my car loaded, who are you to tell me that's wrong? Formal training or not, I have been taught to handle guns since before I could walk good.

Gmkrkrr, or whatever, you keep saying Alx is trolling but he shares the same views as alot of others in this thread. Just because you're so thin-skinned, you've allowed him to ruffle your feathers doesn't make him a troll. You're saying that you never said that having an unloaded gun is useless.....only that is exactly what your first post said. It's not your way or the hwy on this topic, it's all about personal preference. Just from posting on here a while, I know there are some pretty gun savvy outdoorsmen that share my opinions on this, so take your bickering shite elsewhere.
