I'm in the mindset that when I carry there's a round in the chamber, it's just one less thing I have to do if the SHTF.
Of course, it's dumb to say not having a round in the chamber is just like having no gun at all. Having any gun is better then no gun at all.
The Israelis train their military to carry their weapons in condition 3, a full mag with empty chamber, it's not useless it just takes a little more training and time to be efficient with it in a SHTF scenario.
Bottom line, is people should carry how they see fit and comfortable with.

I think I'm gonna meet in the middle. Start carrying with the mag loaded with live rounds and a blank in the pipe. That way an AD isn't deadly, but if I have to draw on someone at least the first shot will make a noise and maybe scare them off.
