Wasnt there a guy bragging on the OT about his ecoboost and then at 100k it shite the bed?

thats me. Love the performance of the motor but yeah i've got a major issue regarding the timing chain that Ford won't nut up and cover despite a TSB and known issues.

Ya man, thats pretty scary that they haven't done a recall ir something.

The 2.7 we have at work is a great truck.

Id love to have one, but not an ot baller and need more than 100k out of a truck.

I had a Mazda CX-7, which was the initial design of Ford's Ecoboost. Had to replace the timing chain at 80k miles. They have know about this issue for years, and still couldn't design around it. IMO, it is a result of stress on that small engine. Turbos are for sport cars, not gas trucks.

I got a 2013.

I can tow a max weight of 8.5k

I currently tow a Grey Wolf 29BH with no issues. Dry weight of camper was around 6,360 lbs. and with two kids and a lot of gear, I've never experienced a problem.

I do have the weight distribution and sway system, though.

Mine blew up with less than 75k. Cost me over 7 grand and ford told me to frick off. Sucked on gas, stayed spooled up all the time.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the timing chain broke and his engine blew. I can name 5 people off the top of my head with the same issue as he and I have experienced. Ford wants around $4k to fix it.

I have a 2013 f150 with the ecoboost. This thread made me wonder what the timing chain failure sounds like. After watching videos on YouTube, I've realized this is the exact noise I've been hearing when starting up for the past 10-15k miles or so. The odometer currently reads 87k. How many miles has everyone able to drive before the truck shut down?

Lol Ford is such a joke. Yes you have the same issue. Rattle at startup. Mines been doing it for the last 30k miles

Well, looks like I need to start looking at trading in maybe...

TBH, though, I've had no issues yet and I'm almost at 60k.

Best move is to take it in and have the timing chain replaced. If it breaks, your engine is shot.

Would it be fair to say that a timing chain replacement is a reg maintenance item @ 80k miles on a Ford truck? Similar to the old rule of thumb in Honda cars?

Don't hate on the v6 eccoB because of the timing chain issue. That shite happens...not because it's a boosted 6 but because they are guessing at designs that will last 100k+. Who here has changed plugs on a 3v head (5.4 4.8). Same thing they brake and cost a ton and people won't touch them and ford said F you. Any car company would try to do the same. I bet the EB these days won't have those same issues. I have a 5.0 because I wanted to super charge it. I'd look at a EB tho...may want a change...something quiet.

7k in repairs is not and issue it's a problem, serious problem. If it were just a random issue ford would fix it, but it's not, it's a problem that plagues all of them even the 17's. A 50k dollar truck that has to have 4-7k dollar fix at 75k miles? I bragged on the engine like everyone else until about a year in, horrible mileage, the engine rattle, then it blew up.
