If the dealer suspects it is a straw purchase, he is obligated to not make the sale.
saw this go down at a place recently. Enjoyed watching the exchange hiding behind the powder shelves.

The girlfriend was trying to buy a used $200 9mm for boyfriend b/c he "left his ID at home". Store owner said no way. They said they would go home, get ID, and come back. He said now that I know you're trying to make a straw purchase, I won't sell it to you then either b/c you're on camera in my store and they will trace the serial # back to me on the purchase.

The store owner was respectful and kind, and I was pleasantly surprised the race card wasn't played.
buddy of mine is a judge. He told me that "they need you; they just don't want YOU." I was dismissed.

Hunted Tensas this afternoon with my 280 Ackley. We're on our extra two weeks of DMAP. Had 20 does all come out at 5, but my freezer is full and I'm looking for horns

wait till March, get a bag of white salt and bag of red salt from Tractor supply. Couple tubs of DiCal Phosphate. Mix well and pour deer cane juice all over it so the deer will find it sooner than later.

no experience with NF, but have Zeiss and Leupolds on all my rifles and they are accurate and durable. Will continue to use these.
Have to go to College Station for work trip 2nd week of June. Thought I would tack on a little hunting trip while I was there. Does anyone have rec's for a hog outfitter that would take me on a 1-day or 2-day thermal hog hunt that time of year? I'll have a Air BnB or hotel in CS/Bryan so that's not an issue. TIA
Tikka or Bergara in 7 PRC, get a 'smith to bed it in a better stock.

Issaquena county, 280 Ackley watching a long food plot. Woodies cutting up all over the place. Got an old cull 6pt walking around, today is his day.
my yard looked like shite for about a month while ICE was in BR. It was nice to come home from a hunting trip and find it finally mowed and trimmed.

Tensas, box stand over a food plot along the river.
280 Ackley, had a 9 pt on camera last night, hoping he shows up in the daylight chasing a doe

Tensas, 80 degrees, thermocell working.
280 Ackley watching a heavily planted turnrow along some thick palmetto woods. Not really expecting anything...but you never know.

Cox vs ATT internet in BR question

Posted by Duckhammer_77 on 12/26/25 at 1:53 pm

Want to cut cable and ditch Cox, but ATT doesn't have fiber available to my address. Is the ATT "Internet Air" worth it in BR or should I stay with Cox until ATT has fiber in my n'hood?

Get a Sako
Get an 85 model or earlier, the newer 90s have their own QA/QC issues. At Sako prices, get a Wby Mark V.

Have a traverse 30 Nosler, ridgeline 28 Nosler, and mesa 6.5 CM models, all purchased before the private equity sale. I hand load for them and they are very accurate rifles.

They sold to Ancor capital in 2019 just when word was spreading about them. They got super popular and ramped up production right as covid happened. They went from boutique gunmakers with experienced staff to high production with whoever they could get to run the machines. They changed things internally to increase profits. QA/QC went to dogshit, rifles weren't grouping, machining looked like shite in the chambers.

My buddy bought a mesa 6.5 CM in 2021 and it looked like they reamed the chamber with a shrimp fork. LOTS of people had to send back their rifles for warranty work and the company wasn't always the nicest about it. Go to any Cabelas or Scheels and you'll see plenty of CA rifles on the used rack from this period.

The internet hasn't been very kind to CA about it either. Hopefully they've been listening and got their shite together. Outdoor Life has an article saying the new Evoke is the shite, but I'm sure Ancor pays for ad space too.

With the Evoke at $1k and with CA's track record, get a Bergara.

going to get hate for it, but Bowie outfitters has some good stuff
They just dont carry cheap brands. Their entry level product is what BP and Academy consider premium. It's a "cry once" kind of place.

Shooters in Lafayette is like Bowies but with way more hunting focus and less fishing
St. Landry Lumber Co in Opelousas (not sure about clothes but awesome firearms and ammo selection)
TP Outdoors in Monroe.
