That’s a good way to put it.

Have a Chevy Silverado with the 3.0 durmax for over a year and about 21k miles.
Just hitting cruise control and go will get somewhere between 24 and 28 mpg on the interstate (going 75 or so)
Really paying attention and coasting down hill and gradual acceleration will get over 30 mpg.
Best trip I’ve had was from BTR to Mobile - averaged 35.6 but there was no traffic and I wasn’t pushing it.

Last truck I had was a GMC with the 5.3. Had no issues with the engine other than I averaged a little over 14.5 mpg for the life of the vehicle.
The transmission on the other hand was a nightmare.

So far, 3.0 duramax > 5.3 gas

Forget the GMC/Chevy trucks and their issues. Buy this final year's 2024 Nissan Titan with 5.6 L V8. All their issues have been worked out, and Nissan is ending the Titan production. Going back to only producing the Frontier.

Same for me. With the Ram I got 330 per tank, in the 5.3 Sierra I got around 400 per tank and with the 3.0 I get 650 per tank. All 3 trucks had similar tank sizes within a gallon or two. All the same driving. If I baby the 3.0 I’ll get over 30 mpg. I was skeptical and was worried I was making a mistake but so far I’m very pleased with it.

I've toyed with the idea of getting the Titan tank to increase the fuel capacity to 43 gallons. But that might be overkill.

I'll also add that every one of my friends that own a 1500 with the 3.0 Duramax have been happy with it.

I sound like I'm selling these things now.

Bumping to see if anyone has any feedback. I might be interested in a 2024 Chevy with the 3.0
