My report from yesterday afternoon/this AM...after arriving on the Island and checking in to our room the wife and I hit the water around 1400 hrs. Immediately recognized that my motor was running rough and under powered (2200 RPM at most). Thinking maybe an injector was plugged we soldiered on. After running for a while the power improved (4000 RPM at full throttle) so I was thinking we were on the way to resolving the issue and had plans for a Seafoam cocktail for my motor. We found lots of small fish behind the island and had about 10 keepers. We had fun catching the little guys.

Fast forward to this morning and a Seafoam does later and the motor is worse. Severely under powered (1500 RPM at best) and much more vibration than yesterday. Also sounds like there may be some metal on metal going on in there somewhere.

Now this might be a good time to give some stats on my motor. Yamaha 115 SHO. 2016 with roughly 78 hrs. Also had the motor serviced (engine oil, lower unit oil, impeller replaced less than 2 weeks ago.

So this mornings fishing trip was very short and we were lucky to make it back to the launch.

Dropped my boat off at the shop on the way home.

Went out to Timbalier this morning. Incredibly depressing to see how fast that island and the others surrounding it (namely Brush Island) are disappearing.

How’d y’all do at timb? We fished beach and barges and it wasn’t impressive at all.

Worst day I've had out there in awhile. Conditions seemed pretty good, but nobody seemed to be catching.

Talked to my uncle who fishes GI a lot and said he didn't do anything today either.

5 keeper trout in six hours of fishing. probably 30 or so 11 3/4in and below
Live shrimp, vudu shrimp, gulp mullets.

a porpoise took a speck right off my hook about 10-15 feet in front of us and my friends sprinted for the shore

it was pretty freaking incredible

Firstly, I'll be down soon for a another visit....but just looking at the grand isle cam at dawn and dusk, I thought the bite would be on, like last two weekends ago when it laid down. Seems like a light NW wind. At first light there were folks in the surf, but they were waist deep, perhaps they should have been fishing more shallow so early..At dusk surf looks good on cam, no one out... the reports on here aren't good. What gives?

I wish I knew. For me personally last summer wasn’t very good on the Island. I had one really good trip when I found the nice sized trout stacked up. I don’t want to make myself out to be some awesome fisherman, but I usually work hard enough and refuse to quit until I do pretty well (if the fish are there).

Last fall/winter wasn’t much different for me. But summer/fall/winter all had one thing in common.....lots of small fish. Logically that would give me much hope for the months and years ahead, but so far I don’t see all of those many 10-12” trout becoming mature fish in large numbers.

Unc and I got a limit of hard heads yesterday morning.

We caught a handful of specks. Decent quality, but not much quantity. First trout I caught in over 15 years. Hit the pool with my family in the afternoon and had many white cans after that. So for me, it was a great day!

Gonna be a family day, today. But I may play around with a popping cork in the surf for a little while.

ETA: I got a few pics, but I’ll try posting them later. My phone service has been spotty.

We only managed 4 keepers in the surf this morning. They would only hit copper colored artificial shrimp. Each time the trout turned on the porpoises immediately moved in and busted them out of the area. It was ideal conditions. No sure why they aren’t biting good.
