I don’t think some realize just how fast it can happen. We had a boat 1/2 mile from the ramp when they first heard thunder. Packed up and went straight to landing. The wind was already blowing as hard as ever and had 4 ft swells. That took place in a matter of 5 min. Could the guide done anything differently, of course. But with the weather forecasted and how nice it was only minutes before it got so bad, this could have easily happened to anyone.

I was in the Brittain/Martinez area once and pointed out this little dark cloud over Tx. to my wife. Within minutes, she was hiding in the rod box and I was doing all I could to get anywhere we wouldn't sink.

Former water survival instructor for offshore. Water is a strange thing. You can see guys who swim like a fish, are extremely comfortable, some are even dive certified who absolutely FREAK OUT once that simulator flips in the water. A lot of guys just get simply disoriented and lose their cool and can't recover.
Not to hijack - But people can get real clingy and one person can make two real fast. Damn shame but waiting before tossing any blame.

My buddies were out that day, and their guide hauled arse and they were back at the dock by 10 AM. I thought I saw this happened at noon.
On a side note, LTD charged us $600 for the less than 2 hours of fishing they got to do before the weather blew up. I was expecting a charge of maybe 50%, 2/3 seems way out of line. So I’m looking for alternatives for next year, irrc, one of the OB posters works for a guide service that does crappie trips.

We went with Bent Rods on a couple different trips a few weeks ago and went with 2 different captains and they were both awesome. Would recommend.

Thread title was more about WL&F stupidity in not requiring ALL fishing guides to have an OUPV license. The toon in question was overloaded thus contributing to two deaths. Captain was negligent and it will be proven in court he was.

I run Bent Rods Guide Service. Give me a call anytime if you’d like to give us a try. Josh Sikes 318-308-5818
